Xenoblade Chronicles 2 |OT| On the backs of Titans we go!

I have this feeling they are going to remake the original Xenoblade Chronicles for Switch, and also port X meanwhile. In the bigger picture, I somehow also have feeling they are trying to somehow make Xenosaga part of the Xenoblade canon. Not only because Kos-Mos appears in the game, but also because some certain items, that appear in the both games.

Ok, help needed (lol):

I have Pyra pre-ordered. Want to pre-order Mythra and Siren, too. I really don't have a lot of money. The money I have could go to much more useful things (like games! Or the inevitable Switch-successor). What do you even do with these figures, other than putting them up on display forever? But ... the thought of not getting them really hurts. I love the Xeno-franchise. But the thought of 'losing' so much money also hurts my head.

Halp :/

The figures will hold their value (and likely appreciate in 2+ years time) as XC2 will, no doubt, be considered to be one of the important RPGs of this generation. Typically great RPGs that are released early on in a console's life span become the most sought after and the most highly prized by collectors by the end of it (FF7 for example). If you have the space to store them and the spare income, then go for it!

Everytime that I look at the price of Persona 3 figurines now, I weep and wish that I'd bought them earlier.

Well, the universe where Xenosaga takes place is one of many lower dimensions in a much larger higher dimension.

We could have Xenogears, Xenosaga and Xenoblade all taking place in the same collective universe, all being watched by U-Do and the other wave existences.

As far as remakes go, I don't want one yet. Give me XX2, X3 and the medieval fantasy game they might be working on first. They've gained a lot of experience in the last 5+ years, I'd like them to get another 5-10 years so we get an absolutely amazing remake.

so cool

I've been tempted to get this for some time now. Just haven't quite pulled the trigger yet. I never follow pre-game hype cycles anymore, so my info is limited. Other than it being regarded as a good JRPG, can anyone tell me if the story is self-contained, do I really need to play the first game or even the Wii U game. How does the story stack up, say, compared to Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy, 4 games I generally loved.

They really needed to announce that in advance. Info got posted here after 3am (while I was working) and it was sold out before I got home at 6am. Really annoyed at missing both collectors editions.

Honestly they shouldve tied the limited edition to the Nintendo store for people who have the game registered on My Nintendo. Screw the scalpers, sell directly to the fans. It'll probably cost me a few hundred to get one now.

Heads up, the 1.3.0 update will be released today, adding new game+ and other updates discussed earlier. I'm not sure if March will be getting a dedicated update, or is this it. I have already beaten this game, and will probably return once the story content is added later this year. This update is quite meaty, though, so hopefully the future updates can add some substantial content for this already massive game.

I think it's just the DLC pack that's out today, the new patch will be out tomorrow according to their twitter:

The patch itself sounds good but I'm not sure I can see myself putting another 80 hours in but you never know.
Patch notes at the link but there are spoilers: https://nintendoeverything.com/xeno...rsion-1-3-0-new-game-plus-delayed-to-march-2/

I can’t believe we’ve had to wait until this patch to skip the blade resonating scene. A simple skip option.

I must have resonated with hundreds (thousands?) of cores by now. Fark...

I'm so glad I've waited to play this game, despite picking it up at launch. Seems the patches have improved things significantly.

Have there been any performance improvements since launch?

It still drops frames occasionally when in some large, detailed open areas or one particular densely detailed town or during especially busy battle scenes. But, it doesn’t happen that often and personally, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the game.

I’m not sure if this new patch addresses this.

Thank you for the reply. At the very least it seems I'll be jumping into a slightly more polished game at this point?

I guess. I didn’t buy the game at launch, so I can’t say if much has changed performance-wise since then.

They improved performance in one of the bigger towns. Other then that I don't think any of the patches have added any performance fixes. I didn't feel any of the performance issues in the game were big enough to really take away from anything.

Thanks. Sounds like overall it should be a solid experience. Xenoblade 1 is one of my favorite RPGs of all time, so looking forward to 2. One of these days I'll have to play X, too. I have it for Wii U but have a sneaky suspicion we may see it on Switch at some point.

Started ng+, with Japanese voices this time. So good. Will de-level everybody to level 20 once I reach Gormott.

Such a fantastic game really. Just ordered the soundtrack.

120 cores opened and no new blades. I think I am up to 400+ without seeing one now. Oh well, on to NG+.

I’ve only got 3 random rare blades to get (
Newt, Dagas & Zenobia
), but I feel like I’ve been bonding cores for hours (probably because I have been lol).

It wouldn’t be so bad, but the need to equip luck items everytime you want to do some bonding is extremely frustrating. Not to mention the unskippable animation until this update. It would have been so simple to have custom saved loadouts that you could load in with a couple of button presses. For example, luck loadout, topple loadout, reflect loadout, etc.

I have only 1 rare blade left to get and so far have blown through 100 rare cores and 50 legendary cores with no luck (despite having boosted Zeke's luck to 970). I love the game but the random chance pulls for rare blades is a horrible system.

Just reached Uraya. Having to fight only bosses is nice :D

Do we know that the Torna blades all have proper sidequests with cutscenes and all?

I like the system, but I wish there was some sort of check in place where if you go too long without pulling something your chances of getting one shoot up drastically. Going 400+ cores and getting nothing when I still need 10 blades just sucks.

Apparently there is that kind of system in place, where cores types are given a point value and when you reach a certain point level without getting a rare, the variables change to give you a better chance. It is affected by blades, how many rares left, items, etc.

I read up on it, but it is so convoluted, it’d be easier to try and understand Quantum Theory.

I do wish Rare Blades unlock through side quest like
Praxis and Theory
I personally loved that quest.

I'm prolly being stupid again here, but I can't overdrive protocol any blades to Rex? Just thought I'd scoot one or two over for NG+ but no go.

Edit: Apparently that's no longer possible after getting a certain skill. Guess that makes sense but not very handy for NG+.

So, a further 150 rare cores and about another 45 legendary cores and I finally got the last rare blade

Newt

Holy merciless buggery that was a grind. I've just about lost track of the number of times I've smashed
Relentless Arduran
just to farm crystals. Glad I finally got all of the rare blades before NG+ but I still maintain that it was a poor system for getting them. A few more side-quest unlocks would have welcome and some means of guaranteeing a rare unlock (even if a little grindy) would have been better than always relying on random chance.

Also finally completed the game. I was seriously over-levelled (99) for the final boss but that was to be expected and has been the case for me in all of the Xenoblade games. Awesome ending rounded off a great experience. Couple of hundred hours put into the game and I've loved it all.

Ranking the games right now I'd probably go XC2 > XC1 > XCX

I do hope the rumors are true and we may get a port of X. I already own in on the Wii U but would gladly double dip as I really enjoyed the open world and exploration (it was just let down by a weak story and some terrifying character designs).

So like most I booted this back up to have a go at opening some core crystals now that we can skip that awful animation.

I still had one of those generic blades on Nia so I opened up some common ones on her, nothing out of 20 of them, and nothing out of a further 10 on Zeke.

I hoarded up a few rare core crystals so I thought I'd go and try some of them as well, went back to Nia and started opening some:
Opened the first one and got Boreas, opened another and got Agate, then Dahlia, and then Dagas ... and then back to generic crap ones.

I honestly can't believe my luck and I can already feel this game about to consume me again.

I have Boreas permanently on Nia as her main and he's easily one of the best healers in the game (probably just behind Ursula). Better still his affinity tree is the easiest of them all to complete so you can max him out pretty quickly. Dahlia is also a damn good one to have as her ability to break multiple orbs comes in very useful for racking up overkills. I'd say you did really well to get those 2 on Nia.

Agate is one of my Mains on Rex. She provides launch (I alternate her with Zenobia) which is invaluable and when paired with Rex's only Smash blade means that you can pull off topple/launch/smash with just Rex, leaving Nia to inflict the break (which Boreas gives her). It also helps that I quite enjoyed Agate's side quest and like her design and character.

If I remember correctly the artist who designed her is same one who did design for No More Heroes and Fire Emblem Awakening/Fate.

That would fit I guess. Because so many different artists had the freedom to put their own designs in it's quite striking how different the blade portraits are from one another. All things considered Monolith did a great job translating the designs into their game engine.

That aside, Agate has one of those nice little touches that are littered through the game. If you switch to her during battle against an insectoid opponent she freaks out and shouts out you to get them away from her.

Anybody know how to get the new blades?

Yeah really like Agate's design and her quest. Another blade I personally like the design is Newt. I know most people don't like her design because of "fanservice" but I personally love how over the top her design is. She looks like someone you would see in one of the Studio Trigger shows.

You need to be playing New Game+ and as far as I know all but Mikhael are from crystals. Mikhael joins in chapter 9 when you have someone talk to him.

Newt was my last blade (just got her) and I've only just finished grinding up her affinity chart tonight (Thank you Ursula merc missions) so only have her story elements to do. I agree, the OTT design is fun. Yeah it's a bit silly, but her awakening custscene where she was doing pushups seemed to me like they were quite aware of that and were just having fun with it. Haven't had a chance to use her yet though but hoping her storyline is good.

I got one of the new blades in NG+. I was kind of hoping they would have their own storylines, but it does not appear they do. On chatper 3 so far. I've opened a total of 10 crystals in NG+ and have gotten 2 rare blades.

Which blade did you get? Did you get the Torna members or did you get the blades they owned?

One of the blades - Obrona.
Then it’s disappointing to hear that they don’t have their own side quests. Also, do you think in the future we might get completely brand new blades that’s done by new artists or the Torna members and their blades is the only new blades we are going to get?

They are included with patch 1.3 that everyone can download. We should be getting some fresh new blades sometime in Spring for the paid DLC pass.
Nice!!! I would LOVE if they bring Soejima and Kaneko to design some blades.

So I'm looking for some new RPG and am really undecided if I should get this.

My experience with the franchise is limited to the first Xenobalde which I liked but didn't love.

I liked the main quest, I enjoyed the story and I really liked the world with all its cool locations and awesome art direction .

I didn't really care for the combat . Felt very basic and monotonous. It would have been better if you could use several characters at once but since you are limited to one it felt like you just needed to figure out the basics of the character and then input the same commands in 90% of the rights.

I also didn't care for the F2P MMO style sidequests and found the optional content really lacking . Even the missions to unlock new skills for your team were boring fetch quests.

So...with that in mind. Would you recommend this one
