Atomic Heart |OT| From Russia With Love

I've played a few hours now. Its pretty amazing. It almost feels like its a set a new bar for how a new release should be. Its so polished (on my end), It looks incredible and the design and the world has so much imagination in it. The whole opening sequence left me stunned. My main issue is the FOV at the moment, hopefully they remedy that in a future patch.

As a PC gamer that has spent a lot of money on my rig I was beginning to feel really bad about being a gamer. Especially regarding big budget AAA games. None of them ran well or there would always be weird technical issues. This game has run perfectly for me so far. It shows that there really is no excuse for releasing games as broken as they seem to be nowadays. I really expected this game to not be real or run like complete shit. My faith in this industry has been restored a little bit since playing this. Its nice to see a game that's developed for people who want to play it, instead of the recent trend of developers creating a game for their marketing department to promote screen shots.
You can use flawless widescreen to enlarge the fov.

Hogwarts Legacy and Dead Space Remake, too! I think they may have learned from The Callisto Protocol's troubled launch
Nah, those both stutter even with high end hardware, not as much as callisto but still far from perfect, and while looking sensibly worse than atomic heart.

This game single handedly ridicule all the AAA pc publisher and developers from the past year (but really way more if you consider how many game looks and run way worse), even more if you consider that this is an AA game made by a fresh team.

From now on, every pc port should be condemned even harder than before because they have no fucking excuse.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
He is talking about the chance to see all the controls in the options, not to have them on screen.
(I think, i didn't checked yet)
Oh yes I think you are right. If that's the case then it's a weird omission, for sure.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Yeah, I meant in the options, not a constant overlay.

I had to look up that you need to hold down X/Square to open the weapon wheel. There's no way to recall that after the very first time the game tells you in the options, as far as I can see.

So, I don't know if this is a bug or what.

But are the TV in the save rooms supposed to be playing something ? All the TV's I've encountered show a blank white screen all the time.

This game, is something special. Not saying it’s great or amazing or anything like that, because I’m not far enough into it. But you can tell this dev put some serious TLC into it, and that should be commended.

Maybe I’m being easy on this more than I should, but given it’s a new IP with huge ambition, and it looks and plays the way it does, I can look past it’s smaller issues.

OK, played some more and it grows on me. I approached it with certain preconceived notions and while it has its flaws, the game is definitely immersive and weird in a way that I can appreciate. And despite some clumsy writing (or just a bad translation), Charles is great.

Imagine if they didn't do the "precaching shaders" on launch. It's an improvement. Not all the way there yet, though, I agree

I just started it, but man the aesthetic and graphics are great. I've always found Soviet stuff interesting so this game is perfect for me.

It's also running surprisingly well on my 3060ti and Risen 3600. I moved my pc to my C2 and playing at 4K/Atomic/DLSS Balanced and I'm getting like mid 50s in the beginning which isn't terrible and feels perfectly fine with Gsync. It's not perfect but it's better then expected.

I mean, if your game still stutter, is it really an improvement?

Their shader compile were very short compared to AH, if you do a compile shader at least do it properly, nobody is gonna die if they have to wait 2-3 min instead of 30 sec for one time only.

Just started, but dang I feel like the intro was a really bad stop. What was the point of all that? It would've been cool if they had the robots go haywire quicker or something.

ugh, the 90gb download size is so brutal. I really don't like this trend in new games. im just a poor lad who lives innawoods without a super fast internet connection who wants to play soviet bioshock with cool art design :(

big edit to avoid doubleposting: also, I am glad this game is doing well. It just dethroned hogwarts legacy in the steam top sellers chart. the amount of vitriol levied at the devs because they are Russian is absurd. We need more people making quality, visionary games.

Never seen anything like Atomic Heart design wise. It is reminiscent of, say, Morrowind when it first came out in the sheer imagination poured into the world. Its like the art design itself is the lore.

I'm loving the game so far , man what an amazing opening to the game and runs so well no stutters
Amazing opening to the game? You taking the piss dude? Bored shitless for 30 mins then I eventually crashed out of some flying shit I was in. Yes I thought I can shoot something, no I get a axe 🪓 and the guy is swinging it like he has half an arm 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not everyone die inside if they don't kill something with a bazooka every 30 sec.

Have you ever played a shock game or an immersive sims in your life? They all start slow to introduce the location and shit.

Yeah, like Prey. Prey had one of the most mind blowing intros of any game I ever played, and nothing "actiony" happens for 10-15 minutes, 30 if you really like exploring all the nooks and crannies.

I would argue that majority of modern games with a story have a somehow slow start.

Hell, even something like bayo3 probably has a lenghty cutscene before smashing mofos at the beginning.

I was just going by the teased trailers of all out carnage. I’ll just stick to FPS games 👊🏻

Decided not to wait for release version and play more. After Arkane's Prey, Atomic Heart is the best game in this genre I've ever played. I know that most of you guys here can't speak russian or even understand it, but this game must be played in russian cuz dialogues here are absolutely sublime and simply can't be translated to other languages with the exact meaning of the words depending on the situation and it's so effin funny and hilarious. I haven't laughed so damn hard in I don't even know how long. The writing, dialogues, oneliners and basically anything related to dialogues, cut-scenes, character interactions, conversations etc. are perfect.

Oh and... the location in the beginning does not even begin to show how amazing the art, art design of the world, various mechanisms, robots etc. really is and how mind-blowing the game really looks like once you're done with the walking. It is also the best Half-Life style introduction to the world I've seen since the first BioShock. If only there was an option to completely turn off HUD.

Playing the game at 1900p maxed without RT and I haven't seen a better looking UE4 game since Gears 5 on a pure tech and art level. I also recently tried to play Shadow Warrior 3 (also uses UE4) after release of DE and.... my god, playing Atomic Heart after Shadow Warrior 3 (which is just so damn basic and past gen like visually, without even an effort put into creation of unique art assets, the world, overall design etc.)... this is how you do it and how you need to use UE4, Flying Wild Hog! It's also blowing my mind that the game was developed by russian studio long before the war in Ukraine started and I thought that after so many russian studios like Action Forms etc. closed down, there was zero chance that I will ever see another game made by russian studio and of such quality. I've no words. What an effin' achievement given all the shit and insanity ruining our country right now and Ukraine as well:messenger_pensive:

I need to know who dies if I play this game, because I am about to kill them.
Technically, a lot. Slave children that made the hardware you’re playing on, Ukrainians and Russians because it’s not 100% if this is intact paid for with blood Russian money and probably animals for various shipping reasons. Let’s just round out this to around 10 people and 3 animals. For every one person that is playing this, 10 people have died and 3 animals were slain.

Enjoy.

I've been waiting for this one, even though I only heard about it a short time ago. It runs great, on "Atomic" preset, it feels like it's pegged at 75fps (I have it set to 90 FPS cap). It looks great too.

Unfortunately, it's such a tonal shift from Hogwarts, that I still have yet to finish, that I just can't quite get into it. Think I will put it away till I consider Hogwarts "done" then come back to it.

Someone said they preloaded then had a 69gb update today.

I hadn't preloaded and stuck it on download first thing which was 69gb so unless its one of those where you can't patch it without a new dl you might be outta luck
I downloaded it via Gamepass on the 20th, and when I launched it today it popped up a window that said it was "Downloading", but there was no network activity, but Task Manager instead showed my SSD going full tilt, so I'm guessing it was doing some decompression or decryption or something.

Playing this game with english VO is criminal

I'm used to playing with subtitles 'cause I'm brazilian, but I always recomend playing games on their native language for maximum immersion.

And I disagree with your impression of the intro. From a technical/art perspective, its pretty mindblowing.
Subs are too fucking tiny to play in russian for many people, and not everything you hear has subs.

Is Mundfish also publishing this game? Isn't it the publisher who usually funds the game and takes most of the profit?

Great OT, Thanks.
Played 2 hours last night on Series X, the devs most certainly delivered big time, It looks and run great on XSX, the presentation is just so good, the art was what i liked the most all those years ago when i saw the game footage. The combat so far is very fun, i also like the MC and story is interesting.
The cons i have are minor and don't affect the overall experience, things like small subtitles which i can't figure out how is this isn't tested before release, not sure also about the inventory as i can't seems to sort out items and it's all auto sorted.
All in all so far it's an awesome game and all i hoped for.
BTW i have the game on Series X with Game Pass and my game says Atomic Heart (Windows), is it like that for you guys sa well?

Completely, Unless the game was setup in a way to make the "bad" character sympathetic in the eyes of the users I don't get it. But, games definitely do have it in there, there were many racist characters in Mafia 3 but the game clearly was not trying to be on "their side". People are just a little too sensitive I think.

This game looks quite nice visually from the screenshots posted, I'll probably give it a go once I finish Hi-Fi Rush. Looks like quite the change of pace from that one.
Must be brainless, I'm sure they boycotted GTA San Andreas since it's racist to play as a black male being criminal, or surely didn't play any Wolfenstein with all the swastikas.
Thank god i play games and enjoy them and don't look in every corner what's wrong with it.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
THERE IS A 67GB UPDATE FOR THE GAME ON XBOX.

Why the fuck is the game making me redownload basically the entire thing again ?

It looks like the entire game has been recompiled. This better unlock a 120hz mode now for making me download the full game twice lol

The problem with this game from what I've seen is that so much dialogue is said during combat sequences. So if you're playing in a different language you won't be able to read the subtitles.

Some people on the internet are super pissed t this game, apparently there is a racist cartoon that you can watch in game. My question is, why can't games actually have racist or transphobes characters that you can actually hate? It's always okay to chop someone's head off but some subjects are like an atomic bomb. Movies like Django Unchained touch worse subjects with hateful, nasty characters and people tend to love this movie and you don't hear discussions about banning it.
Normal people are into films so the crazy is diluted somewhat.

Games… :(
