NPD Sales Results for February 2013 [Up5: Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Official PS3/WiiU]

I don't think Nintendo direct has any impact on sales at all. In fact, I'm generally annoyed they're during the week and at weird hours. I am retracting my 1 sale.
I hope no one is thinking ND has impact on sales. If anything ND should outline release dates of games that should have impact on sales.

Gamasutra.
Ok, my first approximation estimates:

Xbox 360 = 302K (known)
PS3 = 270K
PSV = 35K
Wii U = 65K
Wii = 100K
3DS = 185K
NDS = 105K

Again, rounded to nearest 5K, my estimates, not official, blah blah blah. Usually can be refined as more info comes in.

Name alone moves copies. I'm sure the sales themselves nosedived after launch.

That, and the game had been marketed for years and marketed well. Everyone was familiar with the property, and everyone was familiar with what the game was supposed to be. Great first week sells were guaranteed.

Despite the 360 leading month after month, I'm super impressed that the PS3 is still hanging in there and not trailing by very much.

Estimates based on sources, or just inference/educated guessing?

Matches my educated guesses :)

@TheKevinDent shouldn't quit his day job.

It's always sad when a blatant fanboy who lacks self-control and craves attention is being fed NPD numbers.

FE bundle ~ 19% retail
EO4 < 15k
NGS2P ~ 3k
I like you, though. And those numbers sound about right where they should be.

And here we have a even bigger drop from MGS4 to MGS:R. Same goes to GOW:A the next month.
Because MGS4 and MGR are surely the same kind of game, like DMC4 --> DmC and GoW III --> GoW:A, yes? No one in their right mind expected MGR to have the exact same performance as a traditional Metal Gear.

Kevin Dent just reported that he has the official NPD number for the Wii U, and says that it's "WAY, WAY under 80K."

Maybe it's actually lower than 64K?

Going by his other tweets, he seems to exaggerate a bit at times. So it could be either way, but I'm leaning on the side of this guy being hyperbolic.

Since you seem unable to read the OP:
The OP said:
NPD: “Looking at hardware sales on an average per week basis, all platforms showed an increase from January into February. Specifically, new platforms like the Wii U and PS Vita demonstrated some momentum from the typical January hardware lull with increases of over 40% and 30% respectively.”

Wii U: (57K/5 weeks) = 11.4k * 1.4 = 16k/week * 4 weeks = 64K minimum, since it's "over 40%"

Does Iwata ever look at the monthly NPD charts and think why none of those games are on the Wii U? Can't be healthy to continue on like this.

Any word on how Dead Space, Crysis, or Rising did yet?

I'm not entirely convinced we'll get numbers through normal channels.

Vita ~ 38k, COD bundle ~ 44%
So COD is the only thing keeping Vita undead.
Awesome. So Vita was a little bit higher than the 34-36K estimates....maybe the Wii U sold a little bit higher than 64k-66K? Maybe 68-70K?
~38K falls right within the realm of 35% increase after rounding.

I can't recall if zomg has NPD numbers although iirc he does and he's posted twice that 64K is good for Wii U.

I agree that Kevin Dent tends to fly off the handle, but he's probably right in this case. 64-69 is more realistic.

3DS sales were relatively huge this month, but oddly software was way down.

thekevindent ‏@TheKevinDent

.@FlameDragon_ I can't reveal any number but 3DS was WAY up

does jvm's 185k 3ds number qualify as way up on last month's 145k?

Nobody wants Wii Us. Not that surprising. What has happened between Jan and Feb (and now) that would cause a sales spike? Nintendo must have really counted on the Wii fad hype carrying over and it's almost nonexistent. I really hope they didn't plan for Pikmin3 and Wind Waker Remake carrying them through 2013 or else they are severely fucked.

For me the off-TV play is a killer feature but so far they've completely failed to communicate this to the general public. (Or they have, and noone cares).

I have a hard time believing off-TV play will be popular and in demand beyond the small crowd inside the small crowd that have bought Wii's and have liked the feature.

Why does EO get localized here anyway when stuff like Type-0 and BDFF are stuck in Japan? I know Atlus is pretty good with localizations but damn.... <15k?

We don't deserve Atlus :(

Also, this is my first time in a sales thread, and I asked this question earlier, but it got swept up in the replies:

How is the 3DS doing? It seems like it's around ~185k this month - is that a solid number or is it something to worry about?

Oh wow, Sly Cooper. I thought there was no way that game would chart. And it must have done better than 117K, since it's up there but Fire Emblem isn't. Maybe even significantly better given it being ahead of Madden as well.

Quite the nice surprise. Would love to see the franchise live on.

That's what I figured EO4 would be at; it has a great demo, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned people off who were expecting something more along the lines of FF or even FE in terms of presentation.
