Japanese writers still haven't cracked the code on how to make a piece of media interesting to both children & adults. Something western animation mastered ages ago.
The child prodigy trope is very popular in Asia and it is in everything aimed at kids or teens. To western audiences it comes across just as weird as the child superhero sidekicks in golden age era comics appear today. Remember the reactions to DokeV? Same thing. The character design kinda annoys me.
"Here's the genius brat that tries too hard to act cool while solving mysteries!"
"Here's the hacker that obviously *must* be a fat teenager living in a dark room with an evil grin!"
