Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands |OT| Squad Goals

Recently installed a 1080ti and was looking for something new to play and saw this was on sale. I've always had the feeling this game is just The Division with a new coat of paint. Am I wrong, GAF? Is it worth the sale price on Steam?

I bought it full price with no regrets. But I've never played the Division and I had a buddy to play Wildlands with the whole way through. I recommend it, especially on sale.

Now the ultimate question. Is it worth it if I'll be primarily playing solo? I'm really not a multiplayer guy and none of my friends play this.

You can definitely have fun with it solo.

Just be prepared to be yelling at your AI teammates a lot. They're not the smartest but they're good at certain things.

Ah, ok. Cool, thanks. It's the setting and theme in this game that intrigues me more than anything.

Nothing like the Division aside from the 'Tom Clancy' and some of the gun names/models. Weapons are appropriately lethal and all enemies can be killed with a small number of rounds. There is no real loot.

The core gameplay loop is:
- decide on an objective
- travel to objective
- recon objective
- execute in manner of your choosing until it all goes to shit
- improvise
- bug out

Good to know. Got the gold pack on Steam because it's actually not a bad deal considering it's normally $100. I'll check it out when I get home.

There aren't enough bolds for this.

EDIT

Yes, I want to wrap the main game but have also been busy. Still got NC and FG to play through.

The 'all goes to shit bit' is the best. The transition from smooth and silent lethality to 'aiiii there's a fucking helicopter on my face' is great.

I am still debating whether I should buy the game for 30€ or wait, I liked what I played in Beta and even though I won't be playing with any friends, I enjoy coop stealth games.

So I guess this new Tier mode is similar to Diablo's torment and Division's World Tier? Of course in those games the upped difficulty also comes with an upped chance for better loot, so its a real risk/reward choice.

But what do those tiers mean for Wildlands? Just enemies that hit harder and absorb more damage? I don't remember seeing any complaints about the AI doing too little damage, since thats already configurable with the game's built-in difficulties. I have seen complaints about enemies taking too many hits when alerted, and this Tier system looks designed to add even more defense to enemies, almost like a lite RPG leveling system being applied on top of a game that successfully works without one.

In terms of AI behavior changes the only things I could suss were that enemy AI could have higher awareness as you move through the tiers, but I don't see any other changes.

This isn't exactly what I was hoping for in a new difficulty. Higher awareness is great (especially snipers, which are only a real threat when alerted), but making enemies take more damage to kill, and then requiring players to hunt resources to keep their damage up to compensate doesn't sound like difficulty, it sounds like grind. Was really hoping for some solid tweaks to AI behavior across the board along with tweaks to the game's missions to make running no-HUD more viable - exactly the kind of thing that players running on the highest difficulty have asked for.

Or am I missing something here? Whats the hook?

Is this just another reason to hunt down supplies?

Making the game more dangerous with friends.

That's really it. If it works properly, it will change the pacing and mean people will have to communicate more and more efficiently.

The video made it looks like the tier level will, somehow, be player specific so different tiers can play together.

Yep, seems like The Division
The one best part of Wildlands for me, that lack of level scaling of damage and defense, is exactly what they're now adding to the game, and ostensibly as a gift to the hardcore players.

I'm not sure if I've ever played a game with such a lack of focus as Wildlands. They're trying to be everything to everybody (its a hardcore action stealth game, its a driving game, its an 80s action movie game, its an action RPG), and managing to miss the mark on all of it.

Well, the each new tier is opt-in. I wonder if there's an undo?

Are you talking about difficulty levels or tiers? I hadn't realised tiers were in the game, but I'm normally too busy dying to notice.

The difficulty tiers (50-1) are not in the game yet. When they are added, the difficulty tier for the current session will be the average of the players' tiers.

I haven't seen mention of how the difficulty tiers interact with the per-player difficulty that exists already.

As long as it's optional I think it should be fine.

I don't know how, realistically, you could make the game harder without resorting to some sort of 'cheating' by the AI.

Maybe spawn MORE guys (at normal level)? It would make it tougher, but each individual baddie is still the same. This may cause issues with the game engine if it goes overboard, since it seems to chug in spots as it is.

Change up the enemy type? All heavies or something? Basically giving everyone body armor? Could help, but I'm not sure that heavies are really all that more difficult to beat, but at least it would make sense why they're harder to kill.

More efficient AI? This always feels like AI cheating. They never miss and can spot you a mile away. Is it realistic? I dunno, maybe? I feel like to make it work there needs to be more variance in their pathing and schedules. If a Sniper sits in the tower all day long and can spot you if you move.. it's not really fun OR a challenge. If he wanders around more, takes a piss, nap, etc.. you can plan to avoid him.

I'm happy they're still working on patches etc and I'll be curious to try out the Tier 1 system for sure. I still don't think I've found a more fun play style than limiting yourself to skills, as it makes the most basic encounter more challenging but not frustratingly so.

My crew and I finished Fallen Ghosts tonight and overall we all liked it a lot.

The new enemy types really change up the encounters, specifically the jammers and the armored guys. Most the missions were pretty tough to complete stealthily so they usually turned into massive gunfights that were more fun than those in the main campaign. I was also please that the final boss mission in Fallen Ghosts was a worthy challenge compared to El Sueno's.

I might dabble with the Tier stuff a little, but other than the cosmetic rewards im not really interested in the prestige and levelling up weapons aspect of it. For a challenge I'd rather just replay the campaign cooperatively with my friends on extreme difficulty with little to no hud and see how that goes.

Im skeptical that the upcoming PvP stuff will amount to anything, but even in a stacked year of great games this will definitely be near the top of my GOTY when everything is said and done

I still love the weather in this. It is so well done. Adds so much to the game for me.

...and the scenery ain't bad either. Continually pleasing.

Had the weirdest AI bug I've seen in Wildlands or perhaps any game that I can recall.

There was a mission to escort an NPC to an airport, protecting him from enemies. At the start of a mission he gets into a car and tears off alone. You follow him in different vehicle.

The mission started and he ran to his car. He kept getting in and out of it, until finally he stood by the side and the car drove off without him.

It was bugged, but not buggy. It was swerving through traffic and avoiding enemies.

We chased the car, since we've had invisible player bugs before. But as we were chasing it, we failed the mission saying we were too far from the NPC.

The AI was in two places at once, both failing and fulfilling the mission objectives.

Yeah the game's handling of mission-related NPCs isn't exactly its strongest suit. A lot of weird behaviour and overall glitchy stuff.

Schroedinger's Buchon was a highlight of a hilarious session.

Playing Narco Road. Is there a way to get all the skill points and side objectives on the map as opposed to having to actually look and find each one individually? Thanks.

I really hate Unidad and that when you clear an outpost and whatnot, they come back every time. I especially hate the SAM's. Freaking annoying as hell.

Played a few hours last night, got my main character up to Tier 44 (LOL)!

I really like the Tier system so far, insofar as it gives some sort of purpose past level 30. Just doing the weekly challenge missions is something to work towards.

I don't know if its the break I had, or the new patch 5.0, but the game seems to be running really smooth.

That was a close one...

Really liking the Tier system actually. Down to 38 now. 35+ seems like it's going to be hard.. but it makes it rewarding to keep doing missions since you're working towards something.

On my end you clipped the train or the ground with the right skid.

Well good thing I don't exist in your reality!

The desyncing issues are probably the biggest gripe with the game. Before you joined, Beow and I had spent like 10 minutes trying to get it so we could SEE each other. We'd join each others games, but not be able to see each other.

Hi guys, I tried to go coop with someone, I'm lvl 20 they're lvl 9. The issue is when I join them and enter an area it starts to auto complete his missions I've already done. Greying them out so he can't get the xp. On PS4, I was team leader... anything to be done about this? it's pretty shit design to auto complete his missions.

Not had that: you should be replaying his missions fine. Have you tried him hosting? Sounds like a bug.

Finally finished last night with Beo, Ont, Sparrows. Took a while, but at least we were all together.

Sorry if was a bit grumpy, but towards the end I realised I was coming down with something and wasn't feeling too well.

So when it ended, and it was 2:30 am, or something, I was a bit too zonked to feel anything but exhaustion.

I'd like to try to see the alternate ending, maybe week after next. Take a bit of a break before going back to the DLC.

Three friends and I just picked this game up to play through. We'd all played the beta, and I have one serious question that I can't seem to find any answer to here or by Google.

Guys.

Did they take out the ability to aim and shoot from car trunks?

Nope, but it's only possible from certain vehicles. There are big saloons that allow it, otherwise most don't, sadly.

Thanks. We went on a mission of our own making last night, stopping and checking every car we came across. We must've just been unlucky.

Other than that, game has been great so far.

So if I loved Future Soldier solo, is it a no brainer that I'll love this one? Are they fairly similar aside from the much larger world in this one?

This has a lot more freedom to plan and execute— there's almost no set pieces. The AI in FS seemed both less dumb and less super powered, but that might just be the years since I've played FS talking. The AI in this seem less present. There's no invisibility.

On the whole Wildlands is a much better game.

On holiday away from my Xbox for a week 😭😭 but got down to Tier 23 I think. Gotta hit the 10's!

Got my care package from Ubisoft, so cool! They sent the Calavara skull and Ghost Recon headset from the cool Ubiplay edition of the game.. As well as a Fallen Ghosts "Socrates Lives" shirt, and other swag. Very very nice of them. The skull and headset look boss!

HELP!

Second day playing this and I got a terrible audio bug. Its stuttery and the voices are choppy and slowed down.

Here's what I've tried:

Xbox reset
Uninstall/reinstall
Deleted local save data
My xbox is already set to output stereo

Sounded great the first day I played now its unplayable. Any one had this? Is there a fix? Thanks for any insight.
