Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands |OT| Squad Goals

I bought this at the weekend and been playing it with a buddy. His character is in the 30s, mine's is lvl 9. We put it on the highest difficulty because I can't stand games where you get shot 30 times and still don't die.

Suddenly it became a very different and much more intense game. If there's one thing I really hate about modern gaming (apart from endless bloody micro transactions) it's wall hacks or detective vision as they call it. It just ruins games. I can't see the point of playing a game if everything is done for you. There's no challenge. There's certainly no gameplay. It's pathetic. (Yes, that means you Horizon Zero Dawn.)

Anyway, I'll stop before I start ranting. So, yes, just turning up the difficulty improved the game 100%. We started a raid on a prison and realised we couldn't use our sniper rifles because they kept alerting the guards. We had to sneak in at opposite points, use our binoculars to judge the distances between enemies, take out the lights/alarms, we had to use our pistols because they were the quietest weapons. We had to find out who was a guard and who was a worker. It was tense as hell and the most fun I've had in ages.

The only complaint I have is I'd like an option to use a knife, that would improve the stealth gameplay.

I will say this is one game that will give back whatever you put into it. A Task Force member and I came up with our own game "rules" that we stuck to a while back for a new character, and it increased the 'fun-factor' for us a lot. There is a lot of 'self limiting' needed due to a lack of complete game customization, but it's do-able.

I say tweak whatever you can to get the experience that is right for you.

There is a knife in the Fallen Ghosts DLC I believe, but it just replaces the normal melee take-down. You can't go around swinging it or anything.

I didn't know players were able to use a melee takedown. I'll have to try it and see what it's like.

I think it's like.. hold down X or something, I don't know why I'm blanking. Maybe it's the thumb stick? When you run up next to someone the prompt pops up.

Also.. the weekly challenge this weeks has the Mk17 Tiger Fang weapon as a reward! I always wanted that.. got to earn it though..

Took a break from this game for a couple others. I'm back now for Ghost.
I'll monitor the PS4 request page again starting today. Although.... Even the 14 people that have joined to date are never online.
I missed this game. Narco almost killed it for me.

That is awesome. I love the little moments like that in this game. So much stuff unfolds in a 'realistic' manner.
Crashed helicopters are handled pretty well in the game. I've had quite a few aftermath scenes where there's one sitting in shambles in a street or something, and just aesthetically it looks bad ass.

Had two nights in a row of really fun match made games.

As usual no one from GAF is on when I can play (late Pacific time), and since I finished my Tier leveling there isn't much left to do alone. I figured I'd try looking for group but didn't see much there either.

Eventually just did public match making and it took a little bit, but found groups of people both nights with mics. Since I'm already Tier 1, me joining bumps up the group average so they get more points than normal.

The game is so much fun co-op.. It's fun solo too, but it's a different, way more crazy, kind of fun with three other people. One night we all got in different helicopters and just assaulted the airfield base in Koani.. UNIDAD got involved.. It was crazy.

Added a few new Xbox friends, so that is cool too.

You have a task force?
For the best selling game so far this year I have real trophies blue finding a game that isn't a bunch of tier 1 guys
It's really dumb hey refuse to just let you leave your game open
For others to join unless you already have one other player

Damn you UNIDAD and your anti-tank fences..

Bought this for co-op, a bit mixed feelings after couple of hours. I'm not really a fan of "milsims" like ARMA but man this seems too easy. Setting difficulty to extreme and turning of HUD aids helped somewhat though.

The world is huge for sure but all the missions so far seem to be fairly simple and repetitive. Collecting gun parts around the map feels as stupid as usual but I guess it is a marginally better way for unlocks than experience point based.

Not a fan of the way Ubisoft forces to play side missions via "comms tools", "food parcels" or whatever requirements for skills along with skill points.

Plane controls...I wish they would have just copied DICEs solution.

Settings menu with example images for each HUD and graphics tuning knob is really nice.

No smoke grenades? Seems weird omission.

I knew this would be basically the Ubisoft The Open World again but co-op, solid mechanics and gun/character customization are quite fun still.

Which system are you playing on? Xbox/PC/PS4?

Smoke grenades are a big omission. I would be appreciated those. The fact that the flare can't be seen by other players is also weird.

There are a lot of little nitpicks I can find with the game, but as a whole it's really a lot of fun and a very well balanced and enjoyable ride.

Solo is fun, and recommended for Tier 1 I'd say, but co-op is absolutely bonkers. Nothing ever goes right, and that is half the charm. Running over your comrades "accidentally".. blowing the rotors off the chopper with your drone.. etc etc. So many good times.

Yeah.
I created a PS4 task force a while ago. I've added anyone that has requested an invite.
Honestly though? I never see anyone from it online.
It's open to join.
Shows as: [NGAF] GAF_USA

Let me know if you have difficulty finding it.

Just added one more tonight for a total of 15. I'm finishing a quick work e-mail and then I'll be online for about an hour. Hit me up if interested.

Can someone explain the new leveling system? I plat'd the game awhile back and loved it... I heard there are new difficulty levels, etc? Kind of want to get warmed up for when PVP is finally released

When toggled on, Tier 1 mode makes it progressively harder for each new level you advance. You start at tier 50 and work your way down to tier 1.

There are cosmetic and signature weapon unlocks as you go, along with a few supplies.

The average tier is taken from all the players in the session and is used to calculate the difficulty ramp and the bonus multiplier for supplies.

You use the supplies to make your weapons do more damage. Which you'll need since the bad guys get more health.

This game is too dark at night!

I don't want to use NV goggles -- looks gross

I don't want to turn off HDR -- looks great during the day

I don't want turn up the brightness tons -- again ruins daytime graphics

What did you do about this?

Yeah... It's dark because it's supposed to be dark.

Night vision is meant to look like that. If you don't like the night you can Fast travel around, that makes time go by faster.

I remember going into a cave and it was pitch black. It was such a strange feeling to be in a game and not have any idea where anything was.

Putting on nightvision wasn't just atmopsheric, but essential. it's a good thing the game does this.

The only way the could have changed the system - and kept the same effect - would be to have the room get slightly lighter, but only to the point of blurriness, to simulate getting used to the dark in real life.

Xbox One X update confirmed.. No notes on what/how it'll be improved though.

Personally 60fps and a longer draw distance/less obvious pop-in would be enough for me. 4K would be nice but not as important to me.

Title Update 7 is coming.. soon?

They're doing service maintenance tomorrow morning (tonight?).

No notes that I can find as to what is included.. but hopefully 1 or 2 good QoL improvements.

Give me 2160/30 or give me death.

But I know I'm in be minority

After playing The Last of Us in 2160/30 on my 60" Sammy, I can't go back to 1800/60

Finally! NVG helmets!

Seems like it's mostly just bug fixes.. which is fine I guess. I got spoiled into getting new features every update.

You can create a GRW signature on their website now.. neat!

I take back everything negative I ever said about this game. It's absolutely amazing.

Bought it retail and convinced a buddy to grab it while it was on sale $34 AUD and we haven't stopped playing. It's probably one of the best co-op experiences I've ever had.

They absolutely nailed the graphics, sound and atmosphere too (the weather effects!!!) I mean sometimes it's jaw dropping how good it looks. Each town and area (of which there are shit loads!) has so much attention to detail and the bases have a million was to approach them it's simply amazing. Whatever engine is this needs to be used for more games.

I really hope they keep this going with a sequel! Sogood.gif

Really hope they add outfit customization for the Ghosts...

Feel like maybe not, probably would have done it at release if they felt it was important, but it would make a really nice content update down the line once the most important endgame/balance/coop updates are done.

I play a lot of SP yet and would be really cool if I could better aesthetically match all 4 Ghosts.

Pretty much all of this. My playing time has tapered off again finally.. but so far its by far my GOTY. I put more time into this than any games in a long long time. I wish they had more content releases, as I might never stop playing.

The weekly challenges are nice, its something at least.

GRW2 is going to be amazeballs if they just improve off what they already have.

That would be really nice. Would be cool to look like an actual squad. Even if they limited it to options "Camo/Undercover/Night Ops/Snow Ops/etc" it would be nice to have a theme between the squad.

I've been playing this game by steadily 100% each region by difficulty. Finally down to the 5 Star ones now, so I'm nearing the end. It still impresses me how each region has its own tone/atmosphere.

There have been some less than memorable ones, regions that feel like only slight twists on others but some regions have been great to fly back over and see places I've been.

I really want to pick this up, don't have any friends on PC to play with though. Would this be worth it if i only play Terrorist Hunt in R6 games and only do coop with randoms?
Wish it was on sale, I guess i could purchase on steam and if I don't like it just get a refund.

Yeah IMO it's great fun solo.

In fact, in some ways it's better solo... Sync Shot with AI is pretty strong, and one way the game excels is world art, atmosphere, and immersion.

Playing the game relaxed, exploring and scouting, solo with no HUD, is one way the game excels. And it's harder to do that in coop unless you're playing with people you know/or don't mind you being a bit UI-slow (no Minimap does hinder you, obviously).

Basically, coop with the full UI is a great way to play the game but it's a great solo no HUD game too.

It looks like a good game and I'm sure I would enjoy it, but I'm going to wait for a sale. I ended up picking up all the arma 3 dlc, since it so happened to be on sale.

This game is so fun, I'm zipping around in a helicopter, landing in hostile zones, grabbing intel/weapons/accessories cases and then flying out just as quick

I assume the enemies get RPGs or stingers at some point?

Beat the El Sueno mission last night after I 100% the rest of the game - left him until last. I think the game was a little confused as a splash screen came up saying "You may have defeated El Sueno but you've only destablised 100% of the cartel! Get back out there!"

Might share some further thoughts later on but I really enjoyed it for the most part. I 100% each region as I went along (all collectibles, not rebel Ops/Supply missions) and only found a few moments of monotomy. On the harder difficulties, this game makes for an excellent MilSim and Bolivia is one of the prettiest game worlds I've seen - the artists/level designers really did a top job.

The only real game design complaints I had were that guns were collectibles (I've collected them all now but don't have real missions to use them in) and the automation of your Ghost team. I would've liked more specific controls akin to GRAW but I can understand with an open world like Bolivia why that might've become irritating at times (having them teleport to vehicles after you left was a godsend). Still wish you could've customised their look, even if they did have to remain male.
