That thoughtful combat in video games is considered emergent since Souls, same applies for some parts of its formula (bonfires checkpoints etc, which already existed prior). Its been tiring to read that shit over and over again. Other than that the hitboxes, it took Sekiro and then Elden Ring for From to get them right

I just find the combat annoying, repetitive and controlled, taking away my choice of how to fight in games i play, the bosses in the rpg lite Assassin's Creed for example, i spend all that time unlocking abilities and skills then can't use them or only a few against bosses, or i have to kill them in a certain way and it takes a while, Nidhogg in the Forgotten Saga of AC Valhalla, was really irritating lol, fair play to those who like that combat though, it's just not for me.
