NPD Sales Results for June 2015 [Up2: Batman, Splatoon]

June has accounted for, on average, 5.8% of annual hardware sales since 2010.

Just as when an April is crap and not the death of Consoles, a strong June also isn't the savior.

Very good point. I like to roll my eyes at the "consoles are doomed" post everytime there's a month of not so stellar hardware sales. But that should of course work both ways.

It's "more than 40% for the first six months YOY", so I'd say you should do between 40% and 45% (if it were higher than 45%, they would've said that).

1.45x jumps it to 161k

1.44x is 153k

1.43x is 146k

1.42x is 138k

1.41x is 130k

Congrats to Sony.

To think they still have the MGS V (earlier), Call of Duty and Battlefront deals for the holidays. The numbers are definitely gonna be interesting.

Good XBox showing this month too.

Which generally sells more in a year (in North America), Madden or NBA 2K? I always considered Madden like the biggest sports game of the year, but NBA seems to hang around these charts longer.

Madden sells more but NBA 2K stays around longer. The NBA season being long helps.

Lol calm down, Splatoon probably sold around 70k.

That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

Ha you really think that would be a big selling point?

Of course, there are many who haven't upgraded from the 360 yet, keeping their library will provide more incentive. Especially if they were Halo fans with Halo 5 coming this holiday.

Splatoon is pretty much guaranteed to have outsold May considering the 1m WW statistic we got midway through June. Don't remember exactly but I think NA accounted for over 400k units.

Edit: lol, beaten hard with the exact numbers too.

Imagine if they do a custom Star Wars PS4, thing would sell like hot cakes.
Holy shit I can already see this happening now! And with hype for SW Ep VII being at the boiling point and at imminent release PS4 could absolutely destroy the console sales charts of November/December off the back of Star Wars alone.

Who needs exclusives when your console has an exclusive custom Star Wars bundle with SW Battlefront?

GTA5 man, that game does not want to die, WTF
It's Grand Theft Auto. At this point in history, nobody should be surprised. Expect it to stay evergreen until GTA VI is released.
Sony has little to worry about this holiday season. 3rd party alliances have proven their worth in gold, and hooking up with the world's number one IP in Star Wars is a masterstroke, never mind the other deals that they've made. 2015 is shaping up very well and opening the gates to an even better 2016.
There's a significant amount riding on the backs of 343i. This year's Halo 5 beta bodes well for the final product, in my opinion - I expect the Xbone console pack-in to perform strongly for MS. The Gears version, not so much. I wonder if there'll be a RoTR console package as well, retailers may not be willing to assign that much space to Xbone product considering the results of the last two years. All in all, a very interesting holiday season lies ahead.

So Xbox One up 51% YoY.... Hardware up 8% overall....

where does that leave the rest in terms of YoY performance?

I think its safe to assume 360 & PS3 are down YoY...

WiiU I would assume is in decline based on the Nintendo kriptic message of "WiiU & 3DS combined are up 20% for first 6 months but oh btw 3DS is kicking ass and probably the reason for the increase"

PS4 we know was top selling and I am assuming it also was positive growth given the Batman bundle but ....if hardware overall was only up 8% and Xbox One was up 51% & 3DS seemingly is up it seems like there are some big declines in the remaining platforms.

“Sales of Arkham Knight slightly exceeded October 2011 sales of Batman: Arkham City, which is remarkable considering the difference in hardware install bases,” said Callahan.

Batman is 1.5m+

Yeah, but GTA V has done well even by GTA standards.

Can we extrapolate Sony from this quote + the Xbox % increase?

“Eighth-generation consoles [like PS4 and Xbox One] are leading the way with 15 percent growth over June 2014, offsetting declines in seventh-generation and portable hardware sales.”

Honestly, Microsoft should put "Backwards Compatibility" on the boxes for all new systems, maybe they are waiting until Fall when the feature is fully released.

You mean Backwards Compatible with some games? Otherwise it would be extremely misleading.
