Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Adventure games are about creating your own story. Following the narrative of a game is fine and if the action holds up I won't get annoyed with the story, however, I skip most story in action games. The cinematic action game is the worst thing in modern gaming.
But I love story in RPGs and do the combat just to get to the next story point.....
It is as if I have this huge anger for having my action interrupted with story, but can't wait for the fake action of RPG to be over to get to the next story beat.

TLOU Part II while a good game, was one of the few times where Naughty Dog should have played it safe

An adventure with Joel and Ellie traveling and finding resources for survival with some new setpieces would have still been amazing and maybe have remaining fireflies be on the hunt for Ellie as another story beat

Some ideas for setpieces

Joel and Ellie are asleep at night and they hear infected breaking in and suddenly the house is filled with them and you have to escape

Ellie is tracked down by the fireflies while hunting for food and to get away she runs to the edge of a cliff and jumps into water going down a fast stream into a waterfall and you have to move Ellie left or right to get back to land

I'm sure Naughty Dog could think up some better things but yeah

Console wars are fun. Gaming forums would be 100x more boring without the crazy autistic fanboys trashing the other fanboy's toys. When I see Phil Spencer doing his high and mighty PR shit about we're not in a competition we love the other guys bla bla bla I actively root against him.

  • BRINK was a brilliant game
  • The WiiU was the best console ever to run full blown MMORPGs
  • QTEs make cutscenes more exciting
  • Death Stranding is not only a milestone game, but also a milestone for arts in general
  • 3D Stereoscopic gaming was dismissed because most consumers bought shitty/cheap TVs/Shutterglases - and NO VR headset are not an alternative
  • The great work of modders should be monetarised thru the game (like Bethesda)
  • Subsciption services are gonna destroy innovations in the long term

God of War is a mediocre game.

I replayed it recently on the PS5 and I struggled to finish it.

Environments are very repetitive and "meh" most of the time with rare exceptions.
There's very little variety in enemy types. You fight the same enemies pretty much everywhere. You go to this otherworldly place and the boss is the same horned big dude carrying a thing.

The story is a series of "Your princess is in another castle".

I'm not gonna say the combat is shit because maybe I'm just not good at it. But I don't like it. I find it annoying. The way the camera is positioned especially. If you need an indicator to tell the player he's about to be attacked from behind, maybe the camera should be a little farther away.

I really like fighting games; they’re probably my favorite type of multiplayer games. I don’t care for Tekken though. Maybe it would be different if it had been the first 3D fighting game I ever played, but it wasn’t SoulCalibur 2 was. And it comes down to the movement.

SoulCalibur and DOA have fast, intuitive 3D movement, Tekken you have to do quick taps, double taps, and wave dash constantly. To me it feels very stiff, and more akin to a 2D game in terms of muscle memory/execution. I like 2D games too, but when I play a 3D fighter, I kind of expect the 3D movement to be more fluid. Also not a fan of huge combos out of sweeps, but it’s not the worst thing ever either. Most of the character designs I don’t care for, though Tekken 7 had more new characters and redesigns I did like.

I tried to get into TK4 and TK6, but really didn’t like either. I got into TK7 for a little while though to give it another shake, and liked it significantly more. I still didn’t get too into it because the movement still didn’t feel right to me. I’m sure people who started with Tekken probably feel the opposite, but that’s just my experience.

I loved it but I do agree with your criticism. Enemy variety is lacking big time. My biggest issue is having special moves locked in the menu that requires switching. I beat the game and didn’t get to use a lot of the abilities.

FFVI is the worst mainline FF.

After playing Final Fantasy 1-13 so far, FFVI was my least favorite (I haven't played FFXV yet, so no comment there). It's so flawed in so many ways I cannot believe it's so often regarded as a perfect game. Yes, even the story is a nonsensical mess, I was shocked at how bad it was after all the constant praise. This isn't just a reaction to not living up to expectations, though I'm sure that's a little of it. I am a completionist though, so some of my complaints come from that perspective.

One quick example: Town NPCs. In FFV, the game that came BEFORE this one, when you run into an NPC they move faster on their next movement, to help alleviate the issue of them completely blocking your path, a common problem in 2D RPGs. Also, they only occupy one tile at a time, making getting by NPCs a non-issue. In FFVI, they go back on those QoL changes. NPCs never speed up and are often in the way and they occupy TWO spaces as they move, both the one they're still on and the one they're moving into. Traversing towns becomes annoying and a chore. Yes, overall, this is a small issue, but the game is chock full of issues like this and some, like this one, had already been solved previously. Don't even get me started on Gau's Rage ability...

I love it when people pretend to hate exclusives. Let's be honest, we'd love it if games are exclusive to our preferred platform.

I also like watching people lose their shit if a certain publisher doesn't put games on a certain platform. Either buy the platform or go back to watching playthroughs on YouTube. We're not entitled to those games.

I have never understood the stance gaming forums take on 'console wars', especially this one (neogaf)
The creative memes, insults, jabs each take at one another. Some of the funniest, bonding, wholesome moments come from this.
We aren't so quick (if at all) to stifle peoples opinions. We even take pride in it. We are not like reee!
BUT DPNT MAKE FUN OF MY GREEN BXX/BLIEEUE STATIN
Honest question? Why is it looked at in this way?
If some autist stayed up all night with photoshop and wants to declare Jim and his blue gang a bunch of goobers, with artwork attached, why not?

As a grown ass adult, we can't rib and have a laugh with each other within the community?

Please don't ban me Evilore.

I wanna add that harassing the publisher's twitter account isn't gonna magically make them consider your platform.

I’ve been an Xbox One X owner for three months running now and I just can’t find a fun game to play on it.
The games that I really like are multiplats hence I’ve already played them on PS4, the exclusives bore me. More so, I have a Game Pass Ultimate and just can’t find anything fun.

So far, I’ve played Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 4, Gears Ultimate Edition, Gears 4, Gears 5 and Quantum Break and I just can’t finish any of them. Absolute bore fest.

Nevertheless, Ninja Gaiden Black and SSX 3 are an absolute joy to replay. Kudos to Microsoft on backwards compatibility. Hopefully, they make NBA Street Vol. 2 backwards compatible as well.

Movies/Retroarch and OG XBOX games aside my Xbox One X is basically a Titanfall 2/Battlefront 2015 box

Modern gaming doesn't interest me at all anymore

  • Never liked any of Rockstar's games. Can't bring myself to finish any of the Red Dead or GTA titles
  • Breath of the Wild is the most disappointing Zelda game since Zelda II that should have "Early Access" slapped on it. BotW 2 will most likely be what the first one should have been. 5+ years for a sequel re-using a ton of assets btw
  • Pay-to-win is the present and future of gaming. It already is for Asia and they are a majority of the gaming community
  • VR will be adopted faster than smartphones when the hardware is cheap and powerful (probably within this decade) and people realize they can sell you media (movies, sexy time, video games, music concerts) via VR experiences for a premium
  • [Hottest take] - Single-player games will be made by skilled indie/solo devs that will be free passion projects and will render AAA non-GaaS games obsolete. Probably wont see this happen anytime this decade, but as dev tools and AI get better, it will be a cake walk for someone with minimal experience to make their very own game in 20 or 30 years

Breath of the Wild is the worst zelda in a long time and removed a lot of what I enjoyed about zelda games, mainly dungeons and temples for crappy 2 minute shrines. I would love for them to go backwards as it seemed going fully open world diluted what I liked about it

smt fans losing their shit over reviewers comparing smtv to persona 5 was so dumb. These are two games in the same genre, same publisher, developed by people who've worked on both franchises, that share a bunch of similar battle mechanics and same monsters. Yet somehow we're supposed to ignore that at treat smtv like it's own special thing.

I don't know any other videogames franchises where this is a thing. I'm pretty sure bloodborne fans don't lose it if someone compares the game to dark souls, same with guility gear and blazblue, or uncharted and tlou.

physical games are a waste or space and resources, the digital/streaming future is inevitable and people look like dinosaurs for trying to preserve them as far as retail goes
Yeah. Few hundread years and ppl will be born inside an artificial womb, with a collar that eliminates potentially harmful thoughts (according to wtf knows who), and some serious debt. And they will say:

Ahahaha, the idiots, who are afraid of digitized consciousness uploaded to another body. Yeah, it's the future. Good luck.

It's fine to compare them a bit, but it's not fine to criticize it for lacking distinct features of the Persona series.

1. “Art style” does not make up for average graphical fidelity.
I’m looking at you Halo Infinite

2. There are hundreds of indie art house games that come across cringy and embarrassing that attempt to tackle hard hitting issues and it comes across like a cheap drama school production - chill

3. Souls like games should not be made by anyone other than from software or bluepoint for remakes, it’s just lazy and adds artificial replay value to the copies.

The distinct features reviewers were complaining about it lacked an engaging story and characters. Which from what I can gather a lot of fans agree just as long as no one mentions persona.

Ive said this multiple times but I wanna keep saying to piss people off lol.

-Mario Galaxy 1&2 are the worst mainline Mario games

-RE4 brought the downfall of RE for years and has 900+ enemies because its an action game not a survival horror

-Indie games look better than the richest franchise in the world called Pokemon… Gamefreak are the laziest, greediest fucks in the industry or on par with EA and Rockstar

-Zelda LTTP cant be compared to OOT, its not even in the same league

Metroid Prime 2 is still the best Prime game. Top three Metroid games period.

In the WW/TP debate, I take the stance that both rock and suck at the same time, and if we could get a Zelda game with the exploration of Wind Waker and the dungeons of Twilight Princess, it would trounce both of them.

Mass Effect is a slog until you get past the first visit to the Citadel.

Bioshock is a completely bog standard game elevated by the twist, and if you get spoiled on that before playing, it becomes nothing more than a competent dime a dozen experience.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a good JRPG, and probably the experience FFXIII should have been in the first place.

Nostalgia is an illness. Games today aren't as shitty as you think, and games back then weren't as amazing as you think.

Prime 2 is so fucking good! I’m dying to play it again. Haven’t done it since it came out. I’ve been close to pulling the trigger on a Cube and Echoes but then reason prevails.

The Witcher 3 is insane boring and I can’t play more than 1 hour or it. Geralt of Rivera or whatever is just BORING
I've never played The Witcher 3 but the story has a lot of substance from what I've heard.

Too bad that from what I've seen in gameplay videos, the combat is really lackluster and for me that's a no-no.
