New Spike VGA Teaser Video For PS3 Exclusive [Troll Levels Approaching Maximum]

whatever it is, I trust they'll do something unique with the 'infection'... not just "BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINNNZZZ!" zombies.

If they are using nature videos of the cordyceps as viral marketing, I'd imagine an infection that controls the brain in horrifying ways and creates some kind of fungal growth out of the physical body has the potential to be pretty disturbing. That happening on a widespread scale would be fascinating and scary.

Maybe it'll be a massive, open-world game... but I hope it still works with some kind of intimate storyline. Protecting your family, a child, something. Imagine the motivation in a horror game such as this to prevent your child from succumbing to the horrors presented in the world, ala The Road. Even as you are trying to survive, it's heartbreaking and nerve-racking. I dunno... just something that pulls the player in on an emotional level (possibly even with serious moral choices/consequences) rather than just running around shooting/slashing/punching/kicking things.
Hopefully an idea like mine wouldn't be handcuffed to just one massive 'escort mission'. There are bright minds out there that could come up with a way to make it work where it's still enjoyable from a gameplay perspective.

I'm pretty hyped, regardless.

Why some people say they are tired of the zombie genre? This is like saying "i'm tired of medieval fantasy" or "i'm tired of science fiction."
The genre it self is not the problem. It's the cliche approaches to those genres that become tiring.Zombies or not if the game has refreshing gameplay concepts and ideas then that's all that matters.

Refreshing gameplay remains to be seen, but I consider this "serious business" approach to zeds the most cliche thing of all. I love 28 Days Later but I'm starting to resent what it started in the horror industry - everything is dark, serious, "realistic", and morose now. The classic zombie flicks weren't exactly sunshine and roses, but they were biting (hee hee) satire instead of straight-faced pop psychology/ethics lessons, and it's gotten to a point for me where "serious thing about zombies" just makes me roll my eyes.

We'll see with this game though. We still don't know for sure if it's a zombie game. I really hope it isn't.

A co-op or multiplayer zombie game, or a "it's not a zombie game but they do act like zombies" game, would make a lot of sense for Sony. L4D3 could be a long way off and they aren't going to get the first 2. Could fill a hole in their library. L4D series is very popular on the xbox.

I somehow hope it's not from the GoW team, I love GoW too much and I'd like to have another one before the next generation.

Just to make myself clear i didn't say that this will deviate from the usual cliches (if it ends up being a zombie game.)We don't know nothing yet,so anything is possible.
But for someone to write off a game before we even know more details about it just because it belongs in a genre he/she has experienced many times,i think is a bit premature IMO.

I think Sony learned their lesson about launching a really popular series at the tail end of one of their consoles lifespans. They ended up having to wait until 2010 for a PS3 GoW because they decided to release the sequel on the PS2 game in 2007.

Perhaps it is a bit of backlash to the almost unbelievable and unrealistic hype that some pictures of some leaves and police have caused. The more it's hyped, the more many people will see issues with it. And some of the hype is laughably overboard. So it sways both ways I think.

And that's not accounting for...zombies having been slightly overdone in recent years.

But with the hate the ps3 got, slow sales, releasing god of war 2 on the ps2 was probably the best decision.

Personally I don't consider this the tail end of the generation. If we can have tons of gears and cod's with the same engine just tweaked slightly, why not a bunch of new releases with the killzone, uncharted and infamous engines? Just because a few people didn't care for the game itself doesn't mean the ps3 can't pump out more games using the same engine.

Why spend money on new engines and platforms for people that aren't going to appreciate it.

God of war 2 as a ps3 launched would have probably hurt the series with the amount of hate the ps3 was getting.

Part of that was due to them lacking games that people cared about early on. They were attempting to establish IP's that people had little interest in. And then they release GoW2 on the PS2 a few months after the PS3 was released. What did that really do for them in the long run? Sure, it sold well, but the end result is that SSM had to work on a last gen system instead of focusing on the current system.

It doesn't make any sense for them to repeat that. Especially since now they aren't the leaders. They need to have their major hitters ready to go early on next generation instead of having to wait 3 or 4 years after their new system is released.

You also have to take into account that multi-platform development has increased cost over developing for a single system.

Sales do not have to double for an exclusive game to be more profitable than its multi-platform counterpart

I fully acknowledge this point, but I don't think multiplatform (for two platforms) development doubles the cost of development. If it did, why is the dominant strategy to release across as many platforms as possible? Building on two platforms is not twice the work; porting the code is presumably the bulk of it, while all the assets and level building only need to be done once (and please correct me if my assumptions are wrong).

If you're talking PS3 and 360, the PS3 is the version you are going to opt out of if you're worried about doubling your dev costs. It's harder to deal with and sells fewer units, almost every time.

So while I see how dev costs play a role in the equation, I deny there are many scenarios in which it would play out as you have suggested.

Thank you Junior Member. Now that you mention it, this might be a zombie game. We ought to acknowledge and discuss this possibility in this very thread. In particular, we might consider whether or not there have been many maturely-toned, big-budget games with zombies in them. Next, we might even discuss whether or not zombies will be in this game at all. Finally, we should talk about ants.

Thank you for opening this interesting new topic with your wonderful insight.

Have you counted up all the bad/useless/uninformed posts by full members as well? You might want to do that before you chalk this up as more evidence that juniors are somehow different from regular members in any meaningful way.

Their last game came out November of last year. You really think they have something ready already?? I don't think so.

No comment on the dev (RAD or not) but surely this title doesn't have to be "ready" does it?

Ready to show is another thing of course. Ignore me, I'm just wondering how far along it'll be.

Damn, the thoughts of a God of War 4 by SSM with a sure to be powerful PS4 makes me drool.

I could get behind a sneak peak of some new game, from an "Awesome" developer that is going to be a Playstation 4 Launch Title.

That would be pretty shocking to me. The game could be "shocking" the fact that it is on PS4 would be equally "shocking" and let us know the PS4 is further than we think.

I am to the point now that if the game IS NOT Fungi Infected Human Survival Horror Game I would be disappointed. Notice I didn't say "Zombies" which would still be awesome in my book since I am actually NOT tired of zombies.

I am shocked with no leaks. Seriously, we are talking about a publisher who routinely gets its entire E3 line up leaked prior to the event.

fuckin' hyperbole, how does it work

If we aren't going to take his words at face value during the speculation phase, then we might as well guess ANYTHING.

I'm aware that he's not to be trusted, but if it wasn't a big developer, I think he (or his writers) would choose to say something else instead.

The video that you're quoting (semi-accurately) says "PS3" exclusive.

Twisted Metal was more or less kept completely under wraps. Jaffe even outright lied about not developing it.

Maybe there's hope for them yet.

Hasn't Sony had some major stuff leak before E3, thereby ruining half their big announcements? They didn't do that on purpose.

Or maybe they did. It happens far to often to be coincidence. maybe they resonate that more people will watch if they hear U3, GOw3 or TLG will get shown. You can't tell me that might not be the case. It just happens to often.

Like that leak "Datura" or what ever the name of that game between Plastic and SSM. Devs from plastic contacted Iwaggle to tell him things about "the game". Do you think they would do that without Sony giving them green light? Of course not. And there we got a "rumor". So called "Leak". BS!

meh, I'll just post my guess as well to either look stupid or to post it next weekend with a big "I TOLD YOU GUYZ!!!111":

- Adventure/exploring game with QTEs/some crazy action parts.
- Set years after a pandemic (which also lead to "zombies"). Nature taking over cities etc.
- Made by Quantic Dream.
- Move-support (flashlight etc.)
- Release Winter 2012/Spring 2013

Basically, I Am Legend meets Heavy Rain (but more like the Taxidermist episode etc.).

edit: just realized a US-based studio would make much more sense..

So you think geoff considers developer of DR3 to be absolutely amazing developer? Of course let's ignore that this is entirely new ip ....

Nevermind the super secret reveal, I know like anybody here the PS3 exclusive won't be it. But Capcom is still teasing something Dead Rising related. Could be 3, could be another side game like Off The Record or an DLC episode like Case West.

But for me it also means something else.

You think RAD is "an absolutely amazing developer"? They're good, but they're not a big deal.

Well, they excelled like no one else adapting big Sony IPs (Daxter and the 2 GoW) to a portable device with full new games.

Pushed its hardware to the limit, adapted the gameplay succesfully to the lack of 2nd analog and triggers, tweaked the level design to make short stages more affordable for a portable device, their story fits with the storyline of the console games, and the most important : the games are really fun, keeps the highest quality and doesn't feel a toned down game.

People like them made that possible, something like that was really hard to see before.

They also did a great job porting Okami to Wii considering all the constrains they had (incomplete code and assets, documentation and comments in Japanese only, port specific issues, low bugdet / short time to do it, etc).

I'm pretty sure they would make a great job in PS3 with the help of SSM (as happened in PSP) and Naughty Dog (storytelling, character design, mocap, tech stuff) here and there.

Dead Rising Wii ported to Move, PS3 users finally get their DR1. Oh, wait!

They're obviously technically skilled, but they were making other people's games with tons of the design work already in place. That doesn't qualify them as "amazing developers." I'm not saying I don't believe they can make a great game from scratch. But their reputation right now is not like that. They are not the best guess for this announcement. That's all I'm saying.

You're basically saying if something happens frequently, it has to be intentional, which is fallacious. Sony want to keep their secrets a secret. Other people want to figure them out early and expose them. Sometimes Sony succeeds in keeping a secret, sometimes the secret-hunters win out. You don't have to suppose some clever, counterintuitive strategy to explain the frequency of leaks.

No leak happens (in 98% of the cases) unless Sony or any other publisher wants so. Don't ever believe otherwise

I dont think its true at all. They would love to control the way of the information and to the right media outlets for the biggest exposures.

The TLG video was leaked prior to the E3 by a small site . That took all the impact away from the announcement of TLG during the E3.

Couple of pages back I posted a link of the interview with one of heads of RAD, what their next games is, etc. And a link from gamasutra that says their next game is 3rd persona action adventure, platform:pS3.
In short in that interview he said that they want to make something like uncharted2. I think he was talking about story, pace, characters and how it was executed.

Hmm does this sounds like The Last of Us?

The Sony Santa Monica Studio is hiring for an unannounced new IP!

Earlier this year they were looking for developers who specialize in open-world/shooter games.

@ globox, I work at a small studio and we do about 3 projects at a time. so don't expect that to be their only current project.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Maybe it's not worth leaking. :)
Heh. A guy I know for years, and is a fairly close friend who always "leaks" every gaming news to me, knowing that I'd never, ever tell it to anyone (which I never did) won't tell me anything about this, and he knows who's developing it and approximately what it's about. Only thing he told me is that Sony is making a big deal about this game.
