New Zelda Wind Waker HD videos

Just been looking over some of the gameplay videos posted earlier in the thread. Is the music still midi like in the original game? I can't hear any difference, though the sound effects are definitely redone.

completely redone. not orchestrated but at least uncompressed and re-recorded and sometimes reworked.

Did I really need to explain this? :)

we haven't seen nearly enough to make any calls on 3D World or even DKC TF either way

I am gonna guess Pikmin 3.

Edit: v Yuup

Oh man how could I forget?!

Yes! I've been waiting for Dragon Roost videos.

What a disappointment. Especially when they actually orchestrated several of the tracks for the 25th Anniversary Special Orchestra CD.

It comes down to choosing the right style for the right game. Wind Waker's style of using strong clean instruments, and more folkish and exotic instruments would be ruined with a lush and rich orchestra.

Now recording the real instruments for samples or recording a small group of performers playing the instruments would be preferable.

But The Wind Waker does make use of interactive music, and not just blending pieces of music, actually hitting specific notes based on your attack moves, and the idea of performing the music with the baton makes MIDI with good quality samples, the most versatile option.

If you believe the internet
and especially console-war GAF
, it's barely more powerful than a toaster.

GAF = Reality hyped and heightened. Its why its loved and loathed in equal measure. :D

If it has pro controller support(which I think it does) and if pausing the game brings up the inventory screen on the TV itself then it should work. The thing that might prevent that is if using the pro controller still requires the gamepad for inventory shit.

It has Pro Controller support, it was confirmed awhile ago. If the inventory screen stuff is a huge holdover from the original game, then I doubt they've fixed the soup glitch (at least for the Pro Controller).

It's also possible that a new version of that glitch could arise with the Wii U GamePad. But obviously we won't know until the speedrunning community gets their hands on the game and starts messing around with it!

We absolutely do not have reason to think it's been "completely redone," unless you consider copying the original source files over but without compression to be "redoing" them. There are definite updates here and there, but much of it is still identical.

I cannot even handle how smooth this animation is. Wind Waker was so ahead of it's fuckin time.

A friend of mine has a digital review copy already. When playing with the Pro controller the inventory menu is identical to the new menu they designed for the pad. The only difference is it pops up on the tv screen and uses the analog and buttons to maneuver/select. Also you need to manually change the pages via tabs. L and R do not change the menu page.

Mixing it with better quality soundfonts, mastering it for 5.1 PCM, cleaning it up overall fits my definition of redone.

Well, we don't know they've actually done any of that. We're listening to youtube videos. The music is likely still just stereo, but uncompressed. The only changes we know about are the re-instrumentations in certain pieces. There could be more to it, but it's just speculation.

I can't believe I'm getting this excited over a game I've already played to death. What are you doing to me Nintendo?

It's still ahead of a lot of big budget games. The fact that this game, on the GameCube, was so butter smooth with combat and body movements and even cloth and hair was just astounding. Something few games have touched.

Why do I see dithering in the posted shots? I thought they converted this to 32 bit colour finally? (I'm not talking about the gifs, but posted link on the previous page)

What is your deal? You've been bitching about the bloom left and right, about how much the HD version loses the charm of the original and you're still buying the retail AND digital versions?

Unless it was all sarcasm?

Yikes, L/R not switching the pages? That kinda sucks... it was such a quicker way to navigate between the pages to save and such.

I somewhat expected the menu to look the same as the GamePad one. I more meant the inner workings of the inventory that allows the soup glitch to be possible.

I mean, I can't imagine they want you to be able to continually re-use the same bottle of soup. So if they're aware of the glitch, they've likely chosen to fix it. Whereas something like superswimming, ledgeclipping, storage, or... Zombie Hover (was previously shown to be working in a demo unit a few months back), they've possibly left alone as that stuff doesn't impede casual playthroughs of the game. Buuuuuuut yeah, have to wait and see. :p

Thanks for the info though.

(I really want the glitches to stay though so this version of WW can be the ultimate one for speedrunners unlike OoT3D was for OoT speedrunners)

Tomorrow my copy of Puppeteer arrives from Amazon. I've already preordered and preloaded Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. I still want to pick up Rayman Legends. I still want to finish Pikmin 3. Outlast looks amazing. The Wonderful 101 is a lock. GTAV is kind of one's civic duty as a gamer. I plan to get around to finishing Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem Awakening, and HarmoKnight. I'm at Gwyn on Dark Souls PC, farming for NG+.

All of this... but all I can think about is TWW HD. :-\

So? I've been bitching about the bloom (and rightfully so - it's hideous), and I'm still getting the game.. there is no 'deal'. It's a great game and it looks to be a great remaster (sans bloom). Are we only supposed to speak positive words about Nintendo products we buy? Sorry, didn't get the memo. ;)

I know what, you can still find flaws to any game you like, but I'd never guessed I'd buy 2 copies.

While I'm still uncertain about the bloom outdoors in the daytime - I need to see this in motion in person and see how the time of day shift affects it - I must admit I've quite come to like the new lighting and the ethereal glows.

For me the overall aesthetic package falls into the category "how your reconstructed memory makes you feel like the game looked when you first saw it, rather than how it actually looked."
