Anthem |OT| Fly, you fools!

Got my first real masterwork drop at lvl 21 off a titan in a mission. Haven't gotten any purples yet, though. :p

Nice. You got your first MC way before I did.

Your MC drops are locked to 6 weapons until GM1 btw.

Edit: Just got a grenade that detonates and aoe primes!

I used a different account from my main cause I want a different username showing up for the game and I realized my mistake because alliance bonuses depends on friends list which that account doesn't have. Does GAF have a list of PS4 players that are adding each other for alliance bonuses? Anyway feel free to add me (more like I'm begging you to), PSN: Mormodes.

Forsaken and its large variety of end game activities by far. Current D2 is great and unfair to compare to for a number of reasons. Mostly because it’s a shooter.

Everything they’ve done since the May update before Warmind dropped last year, increasing movement speed, reworking exotics to make them awesome, reworking the weapon loadouts and mods systems completely, reworking pvp (I still prefer 4v4 but the sandbox changes did wonders). Forsaken dropped and is better than taken king ever was.

And there’s an undeniable amount of polish.

The real question is if you’re the kind of gamer that just plays thru campaigns or is there to get into the high skill level end game activities and pvp. That’s where the fun and commaredery is.

Want the real halo 5? Play destiny. Want to be iron man? Play anthem. I’ll be dropping anthem completely the moment jokers wild content drops on March 11th but will return to it.

I never understood the complaint from the super hardcore about having nothing to do. Like... “hey buddy, you don’t think the 200 hrs you invested into a game within 3 weeks isn’t worth 60$???” You do know you can play other games in between content drops eh?
Destiny 2 is a great game. I play with coworkers. Anthem has potential and it has addictive gameplay. Happy to have both in the rotation with Warframe.

As I am getting later in the campaign I am enjoying the story more, even talking with the side characters, there are a lot of interesting developments. Really good voice acting and the faces really are quite expressive.

Sounds like a good plan.

The next 3 months have lots of new stuff to keep people busy and to grow the game.

Lets hope they can stick to it and nothing goes off the rails too badly.

If you ask me, it seems mostly like stuff that should fave been in the game from the get go.

You know what I find baffling? Why can’t you equip loot right from the post-mission loot screen? You should be able to compare new loot to whatever is in that slot currently, and swap it then and there. Did they not think of that? It was literally the first instinct I had on that screen.

I agree. Just, in general, from a design perspective, I think they messed up making everything so instanced off from everything else.

So what's the better game, this or Destiny? And where now for Bioware, seeing as this game was ear-marked to bring them back on the map, but clearly it hasn't matched the hype...
Destiny. (Had more time to cook).

We will see. Bioware must be given a chance to improve the product. If EA moves them off to quickly, it may be a very though time for bioware

"Baffling!" should have been a quote on the damned box. Everything from the cumbersome team system (you would expect this to be smooth, front and center in a game like this) to the cumbersome loot system (since it's a loot shooter after all) and crappy map functions just makes me wonder if someone kept hiding their project boards. Baffling indeed.

Somehow, I feel this may all be related to them spending all their time trying to make Frostbite work for this type of game.

They really are. You can tell EA/BioWare made it a point to not have another Andromeda debacle. The faces and subtle expressions look stunning.

Yes it’s good and I’m enjoying it myself. My stupid friends are skipping everything but I’m having fun with the story

Not crazy about the game but I figured at least I’d finish my 10-hour trial.

Game crashed to desktop twice within 15 minutes. Once in the middle of a mission (which thankfully it let me rejoin when I launched the game again). The second time when I finished the mission and chose to go back to the launch bay.

Forget it. This game is a disaster.

Are you guys reading the Cortex entries as well or just playing? I’d love to get into the story.

I’m reading everything. It’s very interesting! Never knew the lore is this deep. There’s a YouTube video that talks all about the lore. Wanna watch it?

Yes. The lore is pretty cool.

Even though I didn't like the in-Tarsis stories, I think the main story is great for this kind of game.

Playing this is equal parts awesome and enfuriating lol. Just did a Freeplay mission and the legendaries shield respawned so fast I couldnt keep up, then when I got downed im all the way back at the strider again, come back and a million little shits had respawned again. At this point I said fuck this and put D2 back on. This has so much potential, I feel like waiting for a few weeks until some of the annoying stuff is ironed out, but once ive turned it off an hour later I think about playing it again. A very strange beast this one.

Having semi-defended Anthem already by not trashing it in my first impressions I spent eight hours PVPing in Destiny 2 last night instead of playing Anthem. That was the official launch day, it's almost like the little hamster inside my head is trying to get a message out. Just saying EA... or the hamster is. One way or the other I shouldn't be distracted by "just another day" from your main competition.

Also while we're at it... On launch night, if I have Origin Access Basic and also a purchased copy of Anthem it's a bit shit being locked out after the ten hour trial while Premium players can just keep on playing while I patiently wait for the game to unlock!

This is where Bioware missed a trick badly. D2 is the best its ever been, Bungie have learned so much and implemented a load of good content. Bioware could have learned but they are making the same mistakes Bungie made 5 years ago. I wouldnt trash anthem as it has huge potential, but some of the systems in the game make me scratch my head in disbelief.

Between Anthem and Destiny 2, I don't think I'll be buying anymore games for a while. I just started Forsaken content in D2 a few weeks ago and now having a good time in Anthem. Just gonna dedicate my gaming time between them.

Did unlock a 2nd javelin spot and went with the Colossus. Haven't even tried it yet cause Ranger has been cool. Taking a break atm and downloading this update for the game.

Right now the thing that really confuses me is the loot system. Is it this way so people play missions through to the end? You don't know what's dropping and you can't change loadout mid-mission. Why do you have to find a terminal at Tarsis to go through it all? If loot is so important why is it so vague and locked away. I was chasing loot all night last night and swapping weapons out mid match to fulfill different bounties etc, it drives you on and keeps you playing. The loot system in Anthem is an afterthought it seems and needs to change immediately.

A recently launched game has to be compared with other games at launch too naturally. Sadly both Destiny games felt better at launch even if the second one felt more dumbed down admittedly.

I don’t mind having to complete a mission to see/equip new loot. What kills it is all the various loading screens/transitions it takes.

Complete mission -> view results -> view loot -> return to Tarsis -> go to loadout -> equip/salvage stuff -> leave loadout screen -> launch next mission..

It’s so cumbersome and filled with loading screens. It completely kills the flow.

okay, so servers are definitely getting hammered right now on PS4. Got disconnected upon completion but didn’t lose anything.

Ran well. Had moderate amounts of fun. Free from the woman now so have a few hours :messenger_sunglasses:

I’d say you’re good for year. Time to resurrect the community threads but I think it should kinda be all encompassing including a number of games. It’s a great way to enjoy these games without the driveby nonsense

They do it so people dont quit when they get the drop they want. If they didnt do this it would raise a load of other issues with people leaving runs etc. I think thats why anyway...

works fine for me,but I saw someone from the team that I was in disappeared and that created a problem for the remaining 3 ,when we all fell and the game was acting like there is the 4th member alive and no one could revive us,damn it,I hope they fix these kind of things, for a team like Bioware they approach this game like they were in 1990,in this gen the online gaming has evolve yet they aren't capable of doing it right

Well if you're getting some kind of guaranteed loot drop from the end boss/end of mission I would think that would prompt players into staying through the mission and completing it. Destiny is basically the same way here and generally I've never ran into problems with people leaving early, even when getting exotic armor/weapon drops during
the mission.

No, the problem with the loot system in Anthem is that its BORING. There's no excitement when this stuff drops. It's anti-climatic. No special animations or sound effects aka "the jackpot casino" feeling like Destiny has that makes getting loot fun.\

The loot is very muted in color. It needs to be VIBRANT. As soon as you get said loot, it needs to prompt a special animation/sound effect quickly on screen like Destiny does that conveys you got some sweet loot but doesn't drag you out of the game in combat. Destiny does this amazingly well. Bioware really needs to study how loot is handled and "drops" from Destiny and pretty much steal what Bungie is doing.

And as for loot, there's NO DOUBT in my mind that Bioware will eventually have to add Javelin armor/pieces into the loot pool for drops. Why this wasn't in from the beginning is yet another oversight the team has made IMO.

I don't think we'd have a problem with people bailing. There's probably more incentive to do that now, and it hasn't been a problem.

I agree that loot drops should be more exciting. There needs to a unique sound for MC/Legs and a beam of light should extend up into the sky or something.

It's nice that you can see the loot diamonds through the terrain, but that's not enough.

Also, why is it that only MC/Legs are auto-collected? Epics are pretty important for a lot of Hard.

I just got a 4.2 gig patch downloading for Anthem on the PC. Gonna go see if I can find patch notes. Pretty big patch!

Hey Freelancers,
Yesterday we let you know that we were working on some issues and a patch was deployed today to address them. Here is the list of fixes:

  • The final boss in the “Return to the Heart of Rage” stronghold and crit path mission will now properly appear if a squad of freelancers wipe before reaching it.
  • HDR on consoles can now be properly turned on.
  • Fixed a number of issues that were causing players to crash.

We are continuing to investigate additional issues that the community have been reporting and will provide more updates on when they will be fixed.

Yeah defintely overkill on the loading. The ones I hate the most are the "you're too far away" ones followed by a teleport and loading screen. If my group are just in front of me, I'm not too far away surely! I'm lucky with the actual loading speeds but it still sucks all the same.

Yeah that was my initial thought but then as ultrazilla just said, bosses should negate that and it's not something I've really had problems with either. The fact the inventory screen needs a loading screen to go with it is kinda suspect.

I have to say, I'm absolutely loving it, can definitely understand some of the negative comments, but a lot are massive hyperbole imo, can't remember last time I enjoyed a game as much, just love flying around

This was me for 15 hours, then the shit starts to show through. Still fun though.

Yes. The lore is pretty cool.

Even though I didn't like the in-Tarsis stories, I think the main story is great for this kind of game.
The little character stories with no bearing to the plot are neat. They're kind of like the NPC stories in the Trails series. My real problem with them is there's so many and I'm a bit OCD about hearing them all. I want to go back to actually shooting things but I'm not sure if some of the conversations are time sensitive like they are in Trails so I end up spending more time walking slowly in Tarsis which despite being faster than in the demo is still painfully slow.

So what the shit is the deal with the
Open the Cortex to the Legionnaire Challenges.
that keeps constant popping up on my screen? I don't know what the Cortex or Legionnaire Challenges are or why the game insists on flashing this on my screen every 2 minutes.

Cortex is just the game's fancy term for the menu. Challenges are basically a stat tracker but they're kind of important cause they're how you unlock most blueprints, you know "x kills with this weapon" type of stuff.

EDIT: Also those challenges give coins. Not much but they add up.

OK, so how do I get the message to go away?

So I have been playing all morning. I finally got around to finishing up the tomb trials and push the story forward a bit. Been having too much fun in the world.

Game is running pretty good on XOneX still. Graphics are great too. A few things I’d change here and there but I’ve got over 20 hours in this game now and no end in sight yet.
