In the summer it can taste off but the water department keeps it clean. I use a filter built into my fridge but I would have no real problem drinking tap water. The bigger concern is if your house has an old lead service line.

Wonder how long the strike is going to last. My office will probably have a lot less people in it. I kind of want to work from home too but I better go in since I think the line I take will still be going

THIS IS THE BULLSHIT I'M TALKING ABOUT! I catch the EL to Olde City and there is no other way for me to get there other than drive, and I'm not about to drive to center city during a Septa Strike.

So now I gotta work from the crib since I have to take my wife to and from work, maybe go into the office after 5 and work late and leave at like 10 ,11pm and park on the street.

Fuck Septa, Fuck the Union, Fuck John Street, Fuck Constance Clayton, Fuck the Dallas Cowboys as both a team and an idea. Fuck Frank Rizzo...

Crazy, I was in training to become a bus driver for Septa a few months ago. I feel for the drivers, it is a harder job than most people realize. Also sucks for us riders.

Every other contract they seem to go on strike. I've been here most of my life and Ive seen 4 since 1994. Might be another topic but it would seem that unions have past their usefulness.

You must have missed a few, because there have been at least two (I think three) since I moved here in 07.

Fuck septa workers. Remember them bitching about Viagra scripts during the great recession?

I'm normally for unions but when you can easily make over $50k driving a bus, it just seems wrong to go on strike. But Philly, trust the process.

I worked half the day from home then I am going to attempt to go in after 5pm when traffic should be going the other way. Since I live in west philly, tomorrow I'm going to drive to the closest RR stop (I'm guessing 57th and Baltimore) and catch that to Jefferson and Walk the 6 blocks to 5th and Market.

I thought about riding my bike the 60 blocks to the office but have a mountain bike and I haven't been on a bike for that long in number of years. It doesn't sound like a really smart idea...which means I'll probably try it on Thursday.


In news other than the Septa Strike.

A short documentary about this event I help run thats been on going since 1996. 20 Years Deep

I love the cold, we still have to run our AC because it is still warm out. It felt so weird taking my kids trick or treating last night. The radio was running warnings yesterday telling people to make sure that their kids were not overheating. No one should live here, it isnt right.

Wasn't the public already against them for the strike? I feel it happens enough or comes too close to happening enough times that people are upset with them.

I'm chilling at the RR station and they have what appears to sound like jackhammers over the loud speaker. Also the train is 20 minutes late while a bunch of trains making the exodus out of the city are much more frequent. This might be a long week.

Living in Old City, the strike is annoying to deal with. I took an early morning Uber to the big university on North Broad to beat the rush, which was $6.

The cost of an Uber from TU to Old City was $18 around 5:00pm, which I'm guessing was surge pricing. I took the train from TU to Jefferson and walked to Old City instead. Jefferson was a circus with the lines and people everywhere. People were yelling at anyone wearing SEPTA attire. Definitely not a good time to be a regional rail rider after the last 3 months of issues.

Septa immediately rejected the first offer

this is why Philadelphia will never become anything better than what it is. The stranglehold unions have on the city will always hold it back unless a company can sucker the city itself into footing the bill (Comcast)

SEPTA wants them to pay more for their health care plan, and the TWU workers want to remove the 50k income cap on their pensions. Both are huge expenses.

"SEPTA officials have outlined the benefits of working there. With overtime, TWU workers are paid an average of more than $68,000 a year. They have a no layoff clause. And they pay just $46 a month for excellent health care, SEPTA's board chairman Pasquale Deon has said."

Yeah, all those are great benefits as is. And because septa is not isn't running massive profits, that money is coming from some where.
Wikipedia shows its had 6 labor strikes since the mid 90's.
