i spent 340 dollars on a longboard/skateboard and it was honestly a great investment. it's brought me countless hours of enjoyment in the sun, skate parks, around town. it's a wonderful dancer board with the best trucks/wheels/gear on the market...

is that a waste of money? heck no. you know what is and isn't at satisfying? spending like 40 bucks on a steak meal that will be devoured in minutes lol. i think food is probably my biggest and most lame expense. i take my friends and family out to dinner at fancy restaurants and the bill is not so nice to my wallet. There are weekends where I wish I just stayed home and cooked up some chicken breast and rice instead haha.
Many years ago my brother in law was buying skateboards for an "investment". He spent like 5k on these different skateboards from well known skaters and skateboards makers. I laughed at him and said he was stupid to think they would be an investment.
Well he recent sold them all and made a killing. I think he sold them for like 40 or 50 thousand dollars.

Back in the day I used to buy VHS movies weekly even though money was extremely tight. Then DVD came out. Seems like I should have hung on to some of them though, who would have thought that some VHS tapes would become collectibles.

DoorDash. Eating out is already about 2-3x as expensive as cooking at home, and then DoorDash fees and markups basically double THAT cost (at least when you're ordering for one). So I spend 4-6x as much as is necessary.

But it's just so nice to feel like a King who has a magic food-summoning device.

Nothing really. Just the one week with 30 AAA escorts to clean my house while they had to wear ski masks and diapers.

29 would've sufficed in retrospect.

But there's a price break at 30!

I just paid 250 real dollars for two metal posters for my game room. Fucking displate ads on FB finally got to me. Gaming in general I've spent way too much on. Considering full time job/gf/kid it's kinda silly the size of my backlog.

Got to fill that void somehow.

You should have bought yourself a cardboard cutout!

Bro I got the ultimate experience now. Gentle nighttime farts, staring at me from the corner in my house while you whisper in Nigerian.

All of that for 3000 fak...real dollars?

$1,500 dollars in a course to enter the medical specialty... that in the end I pass it.
Spending 6 years and $60,000 on the required two degrees in teaching. I took a $20,000 pay cut from the yogurt factory I was working in to get my dream job. Even now, 20 years later, I would be making more money watching blueberries go by on a conveyor belt all day over teaching.
That being said, I still love helping my students learn.

It's funny, in the most important university in Mexico, I only paid 5 dollars for the entire college degree xD

I've had the collecting bug nearly all my life. Not sure anything was completely out of control but if you take it all together then it definitely cost me a lot of money and time

- sports cards
- retro gaming
- comics (issues)
- comics (collected editions)
- Star Wars collection
- books
- toys/action figures
- music (CDs)
- movies (VHS and DVD)
- stamps
- pins
- audiophile stuff
- computers/pc gaming

Not sure I regret anything but a lot went to donation or goodwill. Toys have been passed down to my son so that's cool. Movies music etc has been replaced w digital hoarding which is a bit more harmless. Retro gaming collection got sold for a nice profit. I only collect comics collected editions now and keep my 3 pcs upgraded. Also the audiophile gear I stopped luckily after I had solid gear and I noticed the diminishing returns. Luckily I didn't get into that hobby when I was younger.

Apple TV Plus, all the movies only like 3 stars. I liked Shining Girls, but is that even getting another season. I really dont watch much on there.
I would say for years I wasted so much on buying average action flicks, nowadays I really watch something with artistic merit, I have limited time, might as well use it well.

Except when new season of this comes out:

Legos and Chinese knockoff Legos. I purchased several buildings, I wanted to make a small street, and have only finished one of them. Part of it is that I had a 1yo at the time I started buying them and he kept destroying them. I finally finished the one a year and a half ago as my son was old enough and left them alone. My wife had another baby and now he does the same thing with destroying the Legos, but he's even worse. He'll pull chairs from one room or find something to climb on to get to them and fucking smash them. I did recently build a workbench in the basement so he wouldn't be able to get to them but I haven't started a build yet. Hopefully in the next couple years I'll finally be able to finish them.

I got really into guitars for like four months. Like most men do at some point, I guess. But I was 37 with all the attendant disposable income that brings. Oops.

PSA Cards, collectors would be proud of me, went overboard and ordered trading cards after not collecting them for 20 years. Growing up it was Pokémon cards, the entire late 90s, early 2000s than I sold them like an idiot now a lot of people are trying to make $ off those cards incredibly rare.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
About 6-7 years ago my kids got me back into Magic: The Gathering. Every new set that came out, I bought two complete copies (the factory boxes that come from people redeeming the digital sets in Magic Online): one to play, and one to collect. Started with Kaladesh, bought all the sets up through the Dungeons and Dragons one a few years back. I also bought the matching Ultra-Pro binders for each set. A few years ago, I stopped playing because the game got really stale and Wizards started releasing a million sets a year.

I have 17 lovely Magic sets on my bookshelf that are all sleeved up in cool binders. They're fun to look at, but holy shit that was a lot of money.

You could like let me borrow one of those D & D sets. You know, Spring cleaning and all that jazz?

I plundered about $5K on super rare horror films (over 600 on different formats) between 2012 and 2015. Sold everything real cheap too...including some oops titles by Code Red which were worth more.

It was being given away for free, for 6 months if you bought a PS5…

My subscription will probably lapse soon.
