Twitch Plays Pokemon: Dig, Dig for Victory!

This is like reality, it's just that simple. Democracy works but it's slow and boring, anarchy is faster, fun but dangerous and stupid. Monarchy would be the only perfect chioce, but you know, it would be fun only for the king.
Now, given the fact that we can't actually hurt anybody, I think that anarchy should be the right choice.

Regardless of what people's opinions are on using democracy to get the key, that's done now and I think we should remove the entire system. Just anarchy now until -maybe- something impossible again like the Safari Zone. It's a lot less rewarding right now.

It's like a great TV-show that got some "changes" for ratings. Meaning suits taking over that don't know what fun is but know how to get ratings.

Of course it would have getting done. Might have taken a few months, but eventually they'd been through.

I don't think it would have been done on persistence/luck though with 70K and up viewers. I think the popularity would decline steeply at some point, maybe day 10 of the maze or whatever, and at some critical point the troll to player ratio during some late night would return to a usable level and they would succeed. The new system or a significant reduction of players accomplish the same thing at the end, noise filtering. One just did it way quicker. It was still even an accomplishment with democracy to get through.

The entire social interaction aspect is far more interesting than beating a game with what mostly equates to random number generation. I think the frustration would have set in much earlier if from minute one there were 70K+ viewers. A lot of the momentum came at lower viewer counts.

Because it'd die first.

It wouldnt, as soon as the numbers are low enough to manage the obstacle, they'd go right back up. The numbers would ebb and flow like a beautiful mathematical wave.

90k+ people simultaneously controlling a single player game is still pretty damn interesting to me. *shrug*

Anyway, Anarchy/Democracy should only be introduced when we've been stuck on a puzzle for 36+ hours, maybe even 48+. Then disabled once we get passed it.

I don't think they would've gotten through that maze eventually. It's like a joke that got old fast. If we would have been in that spot all day today people would stop watching the stream, but for different reasons.

So, the philosophical conclusions you can reach with this stream are...

All Anarchy: Progress through most of the game but can't get through high-dexterity points.
All Democracy: Start9
Anarchy vs. Democracy: Two sides fight against each other and nothing gets done.

Humanity is doomed.

That people would have lost interest and the game would have never be completed. Chaos can only led you this far.
Because it'd die first.

Nah, that's not true. People would stick around. Not as much, no, but they would stick around. And when others hear that those brave few got past this maze or the Safari Zone or some other crap, they'd come back, and viewers would shoot up again... and then come back down when the next BS thing takes more than a couple days. But at least it means the playthrough was done right.

Democracy gives us hope of actually beating the game within a reasonable time frame.

I know some people are complaining about the "purity" being ruined, but you are taking this way too seriously. It's still really fun to watch if you can get over yourselves.

So while I was asleep:
We got the Lift Key and now some stupid Democracy/Anarchy thing is in place? So more bad than good. Wasn't the point of this to see how far we could get even with too many cooks to spoil the broth? Can't we just go back to chaos?

Some people believe we're supposed to win this, even thought that wasn't the point at all. It was so see how far we could get with all the ongoing chaos and troubles.

If the game can't be won under the current setting, then that should be it. This democracy just makes everything hollow. Of course 80k people know how to play Pokemon. We've known that for over 15 years.

that's not what democracy setting proves. It shows that 80k people can cooperate under insufficient settings to accomplish a task.

And anarchy wasn't proving monkey on typewriters; the internet itself does that. There was intelligent purpose to this stream of completing a task, and overcoming certain factors (lag, trolls, conflicting motives) that made completing said task difficult.

Exactly what I am saying, get it down to below 5k in 1 month and woop, they make it. Watch the numbers go back up. Using a "shortcut" isnt rewarding, if I win a game of chess against the AI by taking out pieces that are dangerous to me... of course I'll win eventually, surprise.

Democracy proves jack shit, its an instant win button.

Wrong order... we got the stupid democracy/anarchy thing... which let us progress... then we got the lift key.

Even if they somehow do manage to turn it back to democracy, it is unlikely to stay there long as at the moment the anarchists are able to play the game as well as keeping the democracy system away.

If democracy manages to somehow overthrow anarchy, then the anarchists will swing it back pretty quickly i think since the democracy will be playing the game and won't have enough people voting against anarchy.

Agreed. Hopefully It gets removed.

It's clear to me FLAREON has caused this stain of democracy on Twitch.

If democracy is gone, Flareon will prevail, obviously.

Everyone who wants anarchy is a dome-cult believer!

The prophecy must be fulfilled!

The point isn't to "beat" the game: its the madness, the meta-narrative created to make sense of the madness, its the progress lost, its the grind forward, its the huge payoff where after hours you walk up that ledge, you cut that tree.

There are other streams, like the Blue stream, for those who just want to "beat" the game.

It must be super fun for the one spamming anarchy and democracy instead of entering game inputs like before.

We haven't had democracy in like a half hour or more, so how are you continuing to lose interest?

Because people arent discussing strategies how to progress, but instead are trying to change the anarchy system all the time, and as soon as democracy is up, same thing is going to happen to revert back to anarchy.

Yeah but if you're actually watching the stream it hasn't changed much. The only difference is that we were able to navigate a maze.

If I had someone to inform me when they finally abolish this, I'd probably even turn off the stream :p

We need a mailing list.
