Okay, with the % given, can anyone figure out how much each piece of hardware sold, using last months numbers for reference?

Man this is getting annoying without the #'s.

It seems like a lot of people on GAF have become two console owners the last month or so. Madden and the price cuts is gonna be a nice kick in the pants for 360/PS3 sales overall.

Anyone else getting f**ked off with how long its taking them to bring out numbers? I wouldnt be surprised if we start getting numbers over a month later at this rate.

ot, but my predictions for us sales in august.

ps3 - 133k
360 - 180k
wii - 399k
ds - rip
ps2 - 210k
gba - 134k

everything will be back to normal by september, but yeah, rip ds.

Wait, you wrote this release? Did they forbid you giving hardware numbers (and exact software numbers)? Is this what we can expect on Thursday?

Yes, I did. NPD Canada runs differently than NPD USA. Different restrictions. How one handles releases is different than the other. That being said, I think you get quite a bit of data out of this one. Outside of getting hard numbers, what else would you want to see?

It's going to be interesting to see how the PS3 performance is compared to the 113% increase Sony reported, how the top five retailers fare compared to the NPD figure.

It destroyed the 113% increase when you consider the 1 less week of sales.

Money, and lots of it.

Does GAF have a NPD fund????

I'm starting to think MS will have to drop a bomb at Leipzig to over shadow over NPD news. I mean, Pachter said PS3 sold better, and he's like a Jesus of the video game world.

They won't have to do any such thing. 360 is home to the most beloved game in the world this week, seriously, and PS3 doesn't have anything remotely comparable on their racks. Some article positied that BioShock is poised to sell 3.2 mil on the 360 when it's all said and done. PS3 can take every month as long as the 360 userbase that MS has cultivated can carry such unique and spectacular titles to such success.

Also their money is probably stained with the blood of all the orphans they murdered. Because Sony is evil like that.

it's worth noting that the 360 has been outselling the PS3 by a much wider margin in Canada than in the US
That's not quite true is it?

APRIL Canada:
360 - 12,800
PS3 - 7,200
Ratio: 1.78:1

APRIL USA:
360: 174k
PS3: 82k
Ratio: 2.12:1

MAY Canada:
360 - 12,300
PS3 - 6,500
Ratio: 1.89:1

MAY USA:
360 155,932
PS3 81,604
Ratio: 1.91:1

JUNE Canada:
360 - 13,500
PS3 - 6,500
Ratio: 2.08:1

June USA:
360 - 198,000
PS3 - 98,000
Ratio: 2.02:1

Whooops. It was, I was using the rounded down figures. When I take into account the whole numbers, its only > 7-1 for the DS vs the PSP.

PSP has really, really slowed down after decent HW performance in Canada in prior months.

Why are you holding out on us SC? :|

It really is sad. I understand bringing in new online sources, and whatnot, but this is just, well, whatever.

I mean we are getting more regular, and better numbers from across Europe for pete's sake.

Thats how bad NPD as a whole is.

It will only be so long before we start to get reliable, and better numbers from other sources. Such is the way of progress.

Rough rough hardware guesses:

Wii 33-35K
PS3- 14-16K
360- 11-13K

Does that sound generally in the ballpark?

Jokeropia said:

I guess not. :O

I haven't followed the NPD Canada threads that closely, but I read people throwing out different percentages of how Sony was particularly weak in Canada vs US. I've got actual numbers, so I should have looked at past months more closely.

Thanks for catching that. Article fixed.

that would infer that 360 sales are up week on week too then right?

Not necessarily. For all we know, 360 could be exactly the same or less and PS3 could outsell it by 15%. Though, the total HW sales $$$ does indicate that there was a general increase for everybody.

what's up, canada?

that's got to be a typo.
9-1 is about the ratio of DS to PSPs that I've seen. Maybe 20 DSs and 2 PSPs since they launched.

I'm working with Sonycowboy on a regular basis and will work to have "hard" numbers to you all very soon. U.S. numbers will be "hard" and I'll try to get those to you all early Thursday eve.

A special thanks to Sonycowboy for being patient and working with me on this.

I don't understand why everyone is so eager to see the PS3 beat the Xbox360 for one month, while Wii continues to dominate by more than doubling both of their numbers combined.

Isn't the PS3/Xbox360 fight a bit...moot?

You mean a console with less software and $100-200 selling more than the nearest competitor is not worth discussion :O

I don't know if you didn't get the memo... but the shock would have been the PS3 not outselling the 360 after the chunky price cut. Just like next month will be a shock if the 360 doesn't outsell the PS3.

What??

The PSP is a great console and should rightfully be at the second place position instead of the Wii.

The first and hopefully not the last month that PS3 outsells 360 world-wide.

March with the PAL launch. PS3 demolished 360 for that month.

sonycowboy do you have the March HW numbers? I know the Wii sold about 26,500 but that's all I got.

PS3 189.17%

Woah, that's not bad at all. Question now, will the US numbers see a similar increase or will it be the 113% number tossed around... or less?

Wow, I remember PS3 was selling like shit here in Canada, for a while even unproportionally worse than PS3 in the US.

A complete disastrous collapse in PSP sales. That looks like a shortage. If it isn't, then Sony better not delay the PSP revision...

Exactly, these sales are unacceptable.

1. It is reasonably priced
2. The game lineup is impressive

It is bad enough that it would sell at a solid number 3 all over the world with crappy software sales, but it is bad if this trend of bad hardware sales is due to the PSP itself instead of shortages.

BTW can we get the definitive word on how NPD Canada handles tracking periods? It's been said before that it's done by calendar month instead of NPD USA's 4-4-5 months but I want to make sure.

Number 2 never really mattered much. Software sales are dismal, bordering on non-existant, almost worldwide.

It's probably supply though.

Going by sonycowboy's month-to-month percentage changes, it uses the same 4-4-5 method the US NPD uses.
