8400 PS3 does not surprise me at all with a price cut announced 2 weeks ago for this week. Only the uninformed would buy it last week. I would have never bought a ps3 If I was aware it's price would be reduced next week

360 very close to the ps3 , we might have a surprise with the media creat numbers

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
50% drop for ASH isn't actually that bad.

However, the price cuts were :lol

Looks like it'll end up where IAWW did?

THis is true yes. 8400 units sold with an announced price drop is actually pretty good numbers.

Sony always wins.

How much did Tenkaichi 2 sell in Japan (PS2 or Ps2+Wii)? These sales seem decent enough, but I hope they're enough to convince them to create a 4th version of the series.

I'd really hate to see it ending now (especially after the producer said that they'd try to incorporate a "create-your-character" feature in a possible sequel >_>).

8400 units is never a good number. There were also reports that several retailers didn't want to wait with the pricedrop and instead dropped it as soon as the announcement came. (I know Amazon did, for example.)

Oh and If Msoft had deemed the japanese worthy of more than 5k elite they would have topped the PS3 without a doubt.

I was really thinking that the PS3 numbers would be in the 5k range this week(due to the price drop, I still don't understand how they can annonce a price drop and not make it effective immediately, this is sale suicide) and the 360 10-12k until i read that msoft had only put 5k elites on the store shelves

Expect Sony to do great numbers when the price drop is in full effect.

Good thing about these low sales is that now sales will be able to increase by 200% to 300%. If we had last week sales the sales increase would be around 200% max.

Good god, ASH is a fucking disaster. Good going, Nintendo. Way to show 'em.

My understanding is that the recent (ie PS2 and onward) DBZ games were/are made for the US region, and the Japanese sales have just turned out to be gravy, so I think as long as it keeps selling well in the occident, the series will continue.

Pokemon MD 44000 (956000) -- impending million seller, as expected.
CCFF7 15000(705000) -- not going to be a million seller... as expected.

Nishimura suspense 44000 -- that is... actually a really good start. I was figuring Kyotaro Nishimura Mystery would tank, but 44k opening week is great, especially for a smaller publisher like Tecmo. I'm looking at some of their other major series (like DOA), Deception, Monster Farm, and Gallop Racer, and the opening week sales rivals those.

Hopefully it can hang around for a bit! Shame most of these cool looking adventure games never come out in the west, though.

7.ASH 24000(82000) -- :(

10.MPO+ 16000(169000) -- fucking great sales. This thing is selling almost as well as a real, main series Metal Gear Solid game. And Portable Ops' rerelease has already beaten Substance AND Sustinence.

Nope. It's never going to hit IAWW's sales, because IAWW had a higher initial retail order (around 200k). ASH is going to taper off at around 140k maximum.

Wii is up slightly, looks like it finally broke it's fall but it's gonna be a slow climb back up.

I think there was a conference bump for the Wii. Not much but at this point any improvement is better than its previous freefall.

Ouch at the PS3, if MS shipped more elites 360 > PS3 would have been guaranteed.

Still ouch on Wii software. I wondered how much the conference bump effected it considering the conference bump was probably mainly core games instead of the super casuals. Would DBZ have been in the 20s without the bump or if would DBZ have stayed the same. PS2 software still showing Wii whose boss.

DS is back to its usually dominating position but PSP isn't doing bad either. I thought it was going to be under 50 this week but its holding on longer than I thought. I thought Slim bump was only going to be 3 weeks but from the looks of it, it might last until the holiday season. I wonder what its going to even out as. Plus software seems to be doing a good deal better than usual. Games seem to have a lot more legs.

Well, I'm looking forward to the MC numbers now. But the next few weeks are going to be more telling, to see how the white ps3 affects things.

So basically handhelds win next-gen?

(Yes, I left out ASH. Thinking about it hurts inside.)

Yes, the last Famitsu figure for the game was 170k. As I said, it probably continued to sell under the radar until it burned through most of its initial order. It's probably at around 190, 195k right now... and it's going to stay there.

Pureauthor said:

Basically. Take a look.

Code:
MGS 2 PS2 456,747 88,175 47,913 798,185
MGS 2: Substance	PS2 64,867 26,707 21,954 147,561
MGS 3 PS2 487,156 122,977 84,174 819,807
MGS 3: Subsistence PS2 73,337 21,109 - 133,339
MG: Portable Ops	PSP 138,632 55,791 53,476 374,549
MG: Portable Ops +	PSP	88,940 40,933 - 169,000

Those are really impressive numbers for the game.

That would be quite miraculous as the conference took place on 10 October and this is the Media Create period of the first through the seventh.

But aren't these new figures for the 8th through the 14th? (I don't think there was a conference bump BTW).

I don't know what second-weeks were like, but both PS2 and Wii versions dropped from the the previous for the first week.

As says Famitsu...
Wii week 1: 42,501
Wii total: 157,784

PS2 week 1: 242,856
PS2 total: 423,846

I also notice that one was down from the first. Well, PS2-only; Wii+PS2 combined for Tenkaichi 2 topped this:
PS2 week 1: 327.908
PS2 total: 551,804

Wow, it's basically almost over for CC. I wouldn't doubt the development of an International version to boost sales, as well as the impending re-releases to come, but the FFXII IZJS bomba might cause SE to reconsider...

Boo, hopefully a budget version will push it to a million.

I think the 'FFXII IZJS bomba' had more to do with the 'FFXII' part than the 'IZJS' part.

(But seriously, 'International Zodiac Job System'? Yay for pretentious, idiotic naming convetions of the game industry!)

Microsoft should have just released Halo 3 and the Elite on the same week. That would have given them the sales bullet point they've always wanted.

Wii up. Poor Microsoft. If they had only shipped 10K Elites instead of 5K, they would've made the streams cross. :(

Define "great numbers".

PS3 > Wii for a week or two. It's still possible before Super Mario Galaxy comes out.

ccbfan said:

Monster Hunter 3. The PS3 version was pretty high up on the Famitsu Most Wanted list (e.g. another core gamer measure).

Segata Sanshiro said:
There's no such thing as a "conference bump". Nobody cares about conferences that doesn't post here or 2chan.

Are there three thousand such people in all of Japan? That's all the "bump" was.
It's more likely statistical "noise" than a strong evidence of people buying the system based on the conference. It's like when "analysts" try to say that a 10 point drop in the DJIA was due to some random economic report that came out instead of chalking it up to normal fluctuations in the market.
If the conference generated some regular news, then it might have reminded some people that the Wii still exists, though.

Epic week, let's see if 360 will beat PS3 in MC. PSP is also doing great numbers, it's not dropping very fast. Oh and the increased number's for the Wii I think is due to the MH3 announcement, not the conference itself. A few thousand MH3 fans picking it up is plausible.

It's so funny how people were rambling on about how FFXII:i would push a half million and FFXII would surpass V and VI and IX and there'd be a competition between XII and X...

And then XII:i bombed and it's debatable whether XII has passed X-2.

Which is a pity because the additions for XII:i were actually pretty nice.

If only MS had shipped more, this would have been the most epic of threads.

Does anyone know if Japan is getting the equivalent of the Premium/Elite/Arcade bundles that the US/PAL are getting this fall? Blue Dragon bundle is a good idea, but not if it comes with a fucking Core.

By the way, when I say that Tecmo got some surprisingly good sales for the first week of Kyotaro Nishiura Mystery DS, this is what I mean in context:

Code:
Nishiura Mystery	NDS	44,000

Ninja Gaiden XBX	39,935
Ninja Gaiden Black	XBX	3,886
Ninja Gaiden Sigma	PS3	40,886
Dead or Alive SAT 92,086
Dead or Alive PSX 59,461
Dead or Alive 2 PS2 158,506
Dead or Alive 2 DC 99,054
Dead or Alive 3 XBX 84,471
Dead or Alive Ultimate	XBX 52,401
Dead or Alive 4 360 62,603
DoA X XBX 88,230
DoA X2 360 45,065
Deception PSX 38,489
Kagero: Deception 2	PSX 65,380
Deception 3 PSX 39,958
Trapt PS2 63,461
Gallop Racer 1 PSX 24,679
Gallop Racer 2 PSX 77,152
Gallop Racer 3 PSX 90,585
Gallop Racer 4 PSX 53,917
Gallop Racer 5 PS2 34,041
Gallop Racer 6 PS2 49,071
Gallop Racer 7 PS2 32,528
Gallop Racer 8 PS2 37,512

It's certainly more than I figured it'd pull in (and hey, almost twice the first week sales for Gyakuten Saiban 1 on the GBA) -- and just on the flat numbers alone, it's stacking up pretty well against Tecmo's larger, more established series.

Does anyone know what Tecmo's expectations were or what the retail sellthrough % was?

Wow, nice accomplishment 360 :lol. To be almost outsold by the MS console in Japan it's pretty much the definition of failure.

I don't know what the hell is Sony doing wrong there, so terribly wrong that it was about to happen the unthinkable. This generation is strange.
