I'm assuming sonycowboy wants his title back, but I'ma defend it with these predictions:

in thousands

NDS: 727
Wii: 338
GBA: 139
GCN: 17
PS2: 242
PS3: 118
PSP: 169
X360: 185
XBX: 0

DS: 640,000.
Wii: 430,000.
360: 200,000.
PS2: 220,000.
PSP: 215,000.
PS3: 150,000.
GBA: 140,000.
GCN: 10,000.
Xbox: 9 or 10. I know Robert from my soc1 class bought one for emulation, so that's one right there, and a buddy of mine in Alabama bought one to play Halo 2 because he can't afford a 360 right now.

All Other 2.40% 0.80%

What exactly does this mean?

Some bonus numbers from last month for you guys. Courtesy of NPD. Underlines how phenomenal the 360 SW is doing, but even more phenomenally the Wii is doing given the userbase. With the PS3 doing the absolute worst in terms of units sold (not surprising given the HW sales).

Platform Contribution - All Categories (includes HW, SW, & Accessories)
Platform Units

PlayStation 2 26.90% 19.30%
Nintendo DS 15.40% 11.90%
Xbox 360 15.20% 23.10%
Wii 9.70% 14.60%
PlayStation Portable 8.70% 8.20%
Game Boy Advance 7.00% 3.60%
GameCube 5.00% 2.70%
Xbox 4.90% 2.20%
PlayStation 3 4.80% 13.60%
All Other 2.40% 0.80%

This is my educated guess: the first row of percentages refers to revenue from software and accessories; and the second row of percentages refers to revenue from hardware only.

Did I solve the great mystery?

"300,000 PS3s were sold into retailers the final week of March"

Doesn't that basically only mean Sony shipped 300K systems? Microsoft proved that you can ship as many systems as you want, doesn't mean you will sell that many (hence why they announced they would only ship like 2 million systems from January-June 2007).

Holy crap at those NDS software numbers.

My completely random guess..

PlayStation 2 26.90% 19.30%

That means 26.9% of PS2's total console sales for 2007 happened in April and 19.30% of Games/Accesories were sold in April. I really have no idea though.

NDS - 525K
WII - 350K
360 - 250K
PS2 - 220K
PSP - 200K
GBA - 125K
PS3 - 124K
NGC - 20K
XBX - 0K

Two questions - why is the original Xbox on the list and do we ever do Top Ten SW prediction threads? Here is my stab (without numbers):

1. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
2. Super Paper Mario
3. God of War 2
4. Wii Play
5. Guitar Hero 2 (360)
6. GRAW 2
7. Spider-Man 3 (PS2)
8. Spider-Man 3 (360)
9. Spider-Man 3 (Wii)
10. MLB '07 The Show (PS2)

PlayStation Portable 150K
Game Boy Advance 120K
PlayStation 3 80K
GameCube 10K

DS is pushed upward by Pokemon. Wii saw a significant increase in shipments yet is still sold out. PS2 drifted down after the God of War 2 bump from last month. 360 sees a small boost thanks to Elite and GH2. PSP sinks despite the price drop- DS and Pokemon are crowding the handheld space. GBA stays about the same because somewhere out there are people who think FireRed will make little Jimmy just as happy as Diamond. PS3 sinks even lower thanks to lackluster software.

Software:
Pokemon conquers all, 1.8 million by the end of the month. SPM also ranking very high.

EDIT: 4 week month! Doh. Shrunk a couple of my numbers. PS3 passes that psychological barrier.

Don't forget that Spider-Man 3 was only out for two days of this NPD, so it will see a lot of its sales in May.

Also, why does everyone keep saying the 360 will see a "boost" or a "small boost" in sales thanks to the Elite and then make a prediction that is within a couple of percentage points of last month? That's not exactly what I would call a boost.

Don't take my word for it, that's just my guess, but it seems sensible to me considering the numbers (PS2 and DS both being higher in the first column than the second, PS3 being extremely low in the first but high in the second, etc.)

So the 360 had maybe 40% of the DS' hardware sales for the month, and nearly equal market share when you add in software and peripherals? 0_o

...answer this question for me - are you card-carrying Nintendo (or maybe even Sony) fanboys or do you actually, really believe that the 360 sales are going to DROP by anywhere from 5-30% of last month's number despite the launch of a new SKU that was sold out in many regions (not mine, though)?!?

Elite shipments seem low, other 360 SKUs usually don't receive bumps from software and April will only be a 4 week tracking period instead of 5(automatic 20% drop right there across the board except for current-gen Nintendo platforms).

Unless you can provide shipment numbers for elite that says otherwise, a 15%-20% projected drop seems reasonable for the 360. Besides, I was being generous and only predicted a 10% drop.

1. NDS - 650K (based on Japan's supply increasing - looks like production is up)
2. WII - 400K (same as above)
3. 360 - 200K (Elite, nothing else)
4. PS2 - 180K (Finally starting to fade - GOW2 was for the faithful;, not early adopters)
5. PSP - 130K
6. GBA - 110K
7. PS3 - 100K

Do we usually get Pokémon games separated or listed as one?

Pokémon D/P - 1,700,000
Super Paper Mario - 400,000

NDS - 561K
WII - 428K
360 - 235K
PS2 - 218K
PSP - 204K
PS3 - 190K
GBA - 120K

When do we usually get Pachter's predictions? The lack of figures from his blowhole 4 days from the deadline kinda worries me that the NPD numbers will get delayed.

Define "low" shipments. Take every retailer in the country (4400 EB/Gamestops as well as Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys r Us etc., and online retailers, and even if each store got 5 systems (which is very low from what I understand), and you're still looking at close to 50k units. And that's on the most pessimistic side. I believe it was probably closer to 75-100k.

Also, it's not like the Elite suddenly stopped the Premium system from selling.

I think April is going to be really weird. Combine the slowest month of the year with odd circumstances (PSP price drop, Elite, Pokemon, more Wiis), and the numbers get all screwed up.

That was exactly my point. The 360 sells at a consistent weekly rate even with "big" games. They sold 200k last month during a 5 week period. Deduct 40k and you end up with 160k for a 4 week period minus those who would buy the elite instead of the old skus, and then factor in the continued slide of 360 numbers from the holidays(March and April are really slow months so this really applies to everyone not named Nintendo).

We'll see, though. There is no point in arguing because we really don't have concrete figures for the shipments(my guess was around 40k for the elite) and we'll get the numbers soon anyway. Don't take the predictions personally because they will inevitably be tainhted with bias. I see people predicting less than 300k for the Wii and I am not calling them out on it.

if it hasn't been answered already....

the first number is Platform, which means the percentage of the ENTIRE hardware units that are out there, and what percentage is the respective platform. meaning there's 29% PS2s in the total market

the next number is what percentage that platform sells of the total software units sold.

so, it would be perceivably "better" to have a lower percentage for the first number, with a higher number for the 2nd number.

but what you really want is high numbers for both.

Like others said. First shipments were low, secondly there weren't really any system moving games this month either. Spiderman 3 was on everything so I don't really see a big jump for that. Xbox will do 250k at the most I think. But due to the elite and trade ins etc it'll be less. It only puses well after a big game comes out for several months then goes down till the next big game.

It's 4 weeks instead of 5 really. I think just knocking everything down 20% is a pretty good start on the prediction. The reason that I don't apply the same to the Wii and the DS is that the Wii seems to finally be getting past it's supply constraints, and I believe that to be the result of increased supply, and as for the DS, Pokemon came out. Plain and simple. As for the 360, I just don't think the Elite's sales were additive, I think they displaced sales of core and premium sets.
