Atomic Heart |OT| From Russia With Love

I messed with it some more, and switching the in-game fps limit from 144 to 90 seems to fix the problem. It's odd, it doesn't seem to be an actual framerate limit, as it's still going over 100. Vsync via the game is greyed out and unavailable.

Anyway, on with the robot revolution!

FYI this is the best method for gsync/freesync:

https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/

So in your case:

Vsync on in control panel, off in game.
Framerate limit 141 fps (if the game doesn't allow for arbitrary limits then set this in the control panel as well)

That methodology will get you a tear free experience in any game as long as you don't go below the lower limits of your display's gsync/freesync range.

Well, thank you! I've haven't really had many cases where it doesn't work, since this card (3080 Ti) can brute-force most games at my monitor's native res, but this works a treat for oddities like Atomic Heart. Much appreciated.

Im taking it slow but the game is getting much better and I'm getting more comfortable with it. Its clearly at 9/10 territory right now. Combat has weight and works well when you're used to it. I like the English VA keeping things light. I'd try Russian VA but the subtitle size is impossible to read. Really enjoying the game so far. Still early.

I am wondering why some tests were so tepid. The game makes very good first impression. Has someone passed the 10 hours mark and does the quality drop at one point ?

Hey peeps I'm no that kind of guy, but I'm gonna start reporting every post that derails the thread to talk politics.

For those unease about the title, it's a reference to this very popular title:

Just got it installed and am playing through the beginning. Looks stunning despite the lack of HDR but I gotta admit I felt a bit of whiplash going from Hogwarts Legacy’s bajillion graphics modes to Atomic Heart’s “you get what we give you” single mode.

At least it’s running well enough so far.

That movie has one of my favorite Connery Bond one liners:
”She should have kept her mouth shut.” (Said as a target is trying to escape a building with an advertising mural, and the window he is leaving from is the mouth of the woman on the ad.)

The more I play the more impressed I am.

I'm just going to say it, if this game was made in the USA/Europe and thematically you replace Russia with any other country this game reviews a lot more favourably than it has done.
I have no idea if this is true but I am getting sick of "Journalists" reviewing games by how they align with their politics over how good the games actually are.

Should do this anyway as this is set it and forget it basically. Just turn game on, make sure vsync is off (in-game settings) and maybe make sure your correct refresh rate is chosen.

I’ve literally spent the better part of two days downloading this thing at this point.

Shit better be decent.

So it seems like a cool game.

The hit feedback on when getting hit sucks. Melee is cumbersome, but it could be because I haven't played a FPS on a controller in awhile. Playing on hard mode so basically two robots can be a struggle. Think it could really use a stamina/block button instead of just dodge all the time.

Very intriguing and good looking, a big surprise for me. One thing, it bothers me a bit that, I don't know how describe it, that bouncing camera movement each time you move forward, like a FOV change or something each time you start moving. Anyone else notice it?

This game seems like a more open Bioshock - although it is clearly inferior to Bioshock. It's quite heavy on RPG elements. Some of the game design is a bit boring eg endless lock opening and fetch this item or that. Using the axe is satisfying although gunplay is average. The FOV is nauseating. I don't feel compelled to complete the game. Maybe it's because I'm getting older but video games just don't seem as fun as they used to be. Graphics are very nice however.

Setting it to Rus voice from the getgo really sells the first impression. So Russian, much Bioshock comrade. Also, how hard is hard, might just bump the difficulty up because I want to savour it.
4 hours in is not that hard, enemies kills you in 2-3 hits but they are not hard to evade, at least when there are only 2 of them at the same time.

Still a good challenge but these are the type of games where you probably get very OP the more upgrades you buy, some challenge at the beginning is no biggie.

Explore well people, some blueprints for the weapons can be missed and they make a huge difference.

P.s.

No vignette and chromatic aberration

Add to Engine.ini for no Chromatic Aberration and no Vignette

[SystemSettings]
r.MaxAnisotropy=16
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.Tonemapper.Quality=1

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Blessed ini settings. Thanks man.

How long is the game? I'm tempted to play but I have a lot on my plate at the minute.
According to some reviews, a bit too long for the kind of game it is. 20 or so hours.

I'm just at the beggining but I'm having a lot of fun, can't see myself getting bored in just 20 hours.

Is the enemy respawn thing that Skillup mentioned as annoying as he made it sound to be?
I haven't seen his review, but having just entered the wide open world, I don't think it's too bad (so far). You gotta avoid cameras though, they raise alert levels. Killing robots outside of camera view does not raise alarm. Cameras can be temporarily disabled from large distance via SHOK (or a gun..). You can apparently also disable cameras and robots in a given region, but it takes some doing.

I get you. I still play alot of games, but I feel like I'm willing to put up with a lot more BS these days, which is good, because I know if a game is good enough to hook me or not.

Ok, I expected a 6, 7 levels of good but until now I feel like I'm playing a 9 game?

So I've taken a look at SkillUp's review just to see some of the talking around the game because I didn't dig too much into reviews so I could see what were the shortcomings of the game considered and also it's a review I keep seeing people bringing up and... Dude, there's some bias towards this game?

Don't get me wrong he has some points like sometimes it gets annoying with all the robots they throw at you in the open or not having a strife option.
But then there's some real bullshit, like saying bosses are boring, empty open world, enemies are really spongey or that the story is just an excuse (this comes from a reviewer that literally praised Elden Ring for the same stuff last year) and he even criticizes that the game has a lot of environment and level design variety. Like what!?
He closes his review saying Atomic Heart doesn't have a distinct identity... Which is what this game particularly excels at, which is its distinctive artstyle and world just from the get go.

Even worse, he said Rollerdrome was a GOTY candidate multiple times.

Skill Up is probably the best reviewer out there for AAA games and I very much trust his opinions when it comes to the big budget blockbusters, he has an eye for quality in that sense.

But for everything else? Nah. Someone like Worth A Buy is much better, discovered plenty of gems thanks to his channel and he's a bonafide old school PC gamer:

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Anyone whose beaten the game, how far am I ?

I just had a lengthy cut-scene with the twins, saw them for the first time since the opening parts of the game.

Trying to see if I can finish this within today cause when my copy of Ishin delivers, that's probably the only thing I will be playing.

Knowing you, you're probably like 30 seconds from the platinum trophy.

If a game doesn't grab me in the first hour, I'm not going to bother with it.

Anyone play this on the PS5, and if so, how’s it going? Any crashes ?
It's running very nice imho and loads quick. Only technical issue is the half frame rate of some ennemies animation (but that is the case for all versions).

No crash whatsoever, after 4 hours of play game feels polished (I have not yet went into the open world though)

Games keeps crashing (PC). I hope it's not the flawless widescreen app causing it, because the default fov is unplayable.

The upgrade robot was so much hilarity to me. I would not want my kids to hear it but it had me cracking up.

I am still in the facility and looking for 4 keys for a tree or something. When I finally got an energy gun it was something I appreciated. Overall pretty good, I think I am about 2 hours in.
