Gravity Daze should be on PS3 and Vita shouldn't even exist. That's about all I can say...I've never understood the concept of core gaming/dumbed down console gaming on portables, I've always subscribed to the short burst portable play philosophy and mobile takes care of that fine.

I don't know about questioning the Vita's right to exist but I agree GD should get a PSN port! Game looks hot!

I'm so tired of Vita and 3DS. I wish they would fuck off and die already, this industry needs focus on fewer platforms and their is already one undisputed portable king called iOS.

I don't think iOS is the "undisputed portable king" just yet. Porting traditional games to iOS loses some measure of control accuracy, though this could be mitigated with a portable controller at some point (like we're seeing from Power A and Nyko for Android platforms later this year). It's a more convenient platform; it's easier than carrying multiple devices on your person. Games are also much less expensive.

However... a market for traditional handhelds continues to exist, even if it is smaller due to market shifting to phones & tablets. Some players, notably core consumers, are going to want to hang onto traditional controller-style input without the need for a secondary peripheral. Nintendo still has its ace-in-the-hole with its first-party IPs, which generate hardware sales all by themselves. We can argue the long-term viability of the Vita (even though it's far too early to make fair judgments), but the 3DS has sold enough units to make me believe that the handheld sector will survive at least one more generation before mobile potentially wins out in a worst-case scenario.

I think I understand your frustration, since maybe you believe that resources for supporting the handheld market might be better used elsewhere, but I do believe that it's a bit hasty to drive all of the nails into the traditional handheld market's coffin at this point.

Glad you can empathize...I do think it's time to drive the nail in those fail devices. Next year mobile gets PoweVR Rogue and Cortex A15 to blow away what even Vita can do and approach 360/PS3 visual equivalence.

One day there will be a true gaming control solution for iOS. One day...

Nice way to bring about a point and carry out an argument....randomly insulting people who disagree. Very nice indeed.

so until one day, we should stop gaming?

On a completely selfish note, I hope this decline in the industry leads to developers catering more towards devoted gamers and not just college students who want to play COD and GTA and call it a day. If that market is starting to die, I feel like it will result in good things for the industry.

I'm excited to see how much of this decline can be attributed to that market, if any.

Man, those Vita numbers sting. What's worse is that nothing worth mentioning, aside from Ragnarok Odyssey and that's a bit of a niche game, is going to be released over the next 3 months. Is Persona 4 still on track for a late October release?

I don't know if that end spike is truly when DS sales went nuts. Both GBA and the DS have steep slopes at 12 month intervals (holiday sales) and that last DS jump happens at 12 months after the previous one. If we see another few months past this, we might see the sales slope return to normal. Just Sayin'

The sales spike for DS Lite is the one in the middle of two December spikes. The last month on that chart is December 2007. Jan-Oct 2008 was a 20.5% increase YOY compared to Jan-Oct 2007 to give an idea of the line past that point. December 2008 was the first month ever in NPD where a system sold 3m, and that was the DS.

Just for this, I hope 3ds and Vita become such huge successes it steal development from his preferred platforms so he has nothing worthwhile to play.

This last page is a bit odd for a sales-age thread..

Well he did call handheld fans losers.

I agree. Seems like a good example of trolling/baiting an entire group of gamers.

He turned this thread from being about NPD numbers to being about whether handheld gamers are losers or not.

It's one thing to state your opinion and say handheld gaming is dieing. But it's another thing to attack an entire segment of gamers (3DS and Vita owners) on these forums.

That's absolutely not a good figure, but to be honest I expected it would do much worse, in the 20-40k range.

You really dont think thats a good figure for a Suda game in the West? I'm pretty sure WB knew what they were getting into when they partnered with Suda and will be pleased it's done better than NMH and SotD.
If WB were expecting 1million+, then the joke's on them....but I highly doubt they were.

Hardcore has won a major fucking victory against casual and mainstream today. Fuck you Nintendo, EA, Activision.

I pledge allegiance to the cause of the destruction of traditional console, portable and physical disc based gaming and the corps.

Project Mushroom Cloud is what is left of Nintendo's future now

How are they going to explain "asymetric" gameplay to Grandma? wtf?

Whoever does own this account is a fucking loon...

Wasn't Dyack banned for coming back to GAF after he said he'd never come back here?
Right. Banned for the trash he talked outside of NeoGAF.

I wonder how much of the video game pie is digital only now. Because retail is clearly contracting, and I don't even know if new consoles will bring retail sales back up to where they were when the Wii was at its peak.

Is there really any doubt it's the same guy? Everything he says is exactly the same.
Yeah not to mention the tweets of his posts on gaf...he's proud of his posts too. lol, what a mental case.
