I think the review scales should be changed. If I had a review site, my review scale would not have limit.
The refence would be past reviews.
Having a scale x/10 or any other type of scales is already saying that 10 is the best a game can get. But, how do we know what is the best a game can get? We don't know.
U2 could get a 10 and then U3 could get 13 (it is 3 units better then U2) and then another game would arrive that could get a 14 and so on.
I think this is a smart scale for reviews. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think there are two options:
1) Rebalance the scores. 10 is used too easily, 6 is considered crap. 6 should be something like "Decent but flawed, full-price only for some people". When you see a game getting 6, you usually think "Man, this sucks, I'll pass". Basically, 6 is like a 4. 10, on the other hand, is like a 9, when it should actually be "Oh God, this gotta be the best game I've ever played". That's also why I normally don't trust reviews: votes are too subjectives, which brings on the second option...
2) Eliminating votes altogether. Focusing on the review should eliminate the influence of the vote. Many people tend to give too much trust on the score and too little importance on the review itself, which should make clear what are the pros and what are the cons.
My two cents, of course.

They said something like "Many people complained that we gave every Nintendo game a 10, so for Galaxy we decided to go safe with an 11".
I know. Didn't make sense for me neither.

I'm really tempted to spoil the game for myself by reading this review. I usually don't care for if something is "spoiled" but this is uncharted...dammit


edit: I just saw the images from the review. all i can say is wow someone on GAF guessed this story mechanic 100% on point

I love how every review thread ever in GAF's history ultimate boils down to "Publication X" gave "Game Y" "Score Z". They suck so bad wahwahwah.

no it was more or less a "wouldn't it be cool if they did [this and this] on uncharted 3 story?" comment. its a mechanic that makes sense from the context and theme of the characters ND gave about the game but I don't think most people would guess this.

here's a controversial opinion: do we really have to bother with reviews? we all know the game will be excellent and like 2 days after we all have the game no one will even care about the reviews.

I'm a bit worried about it being similar to Uncharted 2. Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that it is similar, but usually when reviewers say it they mean it as a criticism. (That's where .01 went LOL)

Well, you can't do anything about it. When Uncharted 2 came out, it was such a massive improvement over its predecessor in every area. Uncharted 3 will make a lesser impact since it is on the same hardware, but let's see what ND has in store for us.

I can see where you are coming from, but for me it would be more of a problem if this was Uncharted 5. However it's the third one in the series and I am perfectly happy with more of same.
