SNES Mini Classic Thread | No preorder or shipping discussion here

I'm really backwards with Best Buy orders. With the Mario+Rabbids price mistake I had it shipped thinking they wouldn't honor it if I did store pick up. But while I waited for my order I kept seeing pics of people with store pickup orders. I do remember previously hearing about early shipments from Best Buy though so I messed up on the SNES Classic.
I didn't even have the option for shipping on mine when I ordered it.

I'm more confused by the fact that people
Here have multiples but Best Buy is cancelling my friends order of two. How's that's even work?

My Target status said arriving Thurs. 9/28 yesterday, but now it says arriving through Thu, Sep 28 - Tue, Oct 10.

Walmart still says Oct. 5.

RIP my chances of playing this weekend, I guess.

So if not on Perfect Pixel mode, do we get noticeable flicker like on the NES Classic? Also, any audio lag?

Quantities are a lot larger than for most preordered items. It's not like you just preordered the new Nickleback album. Not to mention if you haven't noticed lately retailers like Amazon have had trouble meeting high priority preorder ship dates lately.

You think this will sell more than peak iPhone?

Sorry Triforce, no giftcards :(

I'm hoping that there is plenty of stock throughout the Holiday season so I can give the gift of Super Nintendo to my family members for Christmas.

I hope someone here creates a Snes classic game club thread.

I'd certainly be down.

Here's a draft schedule for Q4 2017

SNES Classic Game Club
October 1 - 15: Super Mario World
Easy Goal: Beat the game
Tougher Goal: 96 Exits
Toughest Goal: Memory Overflow End-Game Warp

October 16 - 31: Super Punch-Out!!
Easy Goal: Beat Mr. Sandman
Tougher Goal: Beat the Game
Toughest Goal: Beat the Game without Save States and all Quick Kills

November 1 - 15: Star Fox
Easy Goal: Beat the Game, Easy
Tougher Goal: Beat the Game, Medium
Toughest Goal: Beat the Game, Hard

November 16-23: F-Zero
Easy Goal: Beat through the end of King League
Harder Goal: Beat all leagues in Master Difficulty

November 27-30: Kirby's Dream Course
Easy Goal: Beat through the end of Dedede in Course 8
Harder Goal: Beat the extra courses

December 1-31: Earthbound
Goal: Beat the game
Bonus Goal: Get all of the photos
Bonus Goal: Use the stairs glitch to beat the game fast
Finish early? Double back to one of the unfinished games (F-Zero Master difficulty is not easy.)

Feedback?

My idea was 2 weeks per game, mix up the genres a bit, give the RPGs a month, one RPG per quarter, take some of the skill based games that most people will not complete and probably won't have a lot of conversation due and reduce them to one week -- should be possible to get through all the games in one year. If the SNES Classic ends up hackable, I'll fill the empty weeks at the end of the year with games to add to the SNES Classic (games that are cheap to buy on VC or by cart to encourage people to actually own the games they're playing)?

Oh, cool. So "game club" is basically a play-along type of thing? That sounds fun. When would FF3 be scheduled?

I would probably do the RPGs at the end of every quarter, and would probably do FF3 end of Q1 2018, then SOM, and end the year with SMRPG?

And yeah, it'd be a play along / discuss along thing with like an emphasis on making an OT type of post for each game, with some links to guides, screenshots, fan art, etc. And maybe we'd do something like make a little "game passport" where you can get your passport stamped each game you beat?

Oh yeah, that sounds really good. When do you plan on posting the game club thread?

I hope mine gets here in time for the weekend. Damn, super excited. SNES was my first gaming system.

I guess I'd aim for the 1st. I didn't really think of doing it until Proc suggested the idea. Hahaa.

I could make a twitter and gaf bot you could respond to with certain tags and it'd automatically update your passport with the games you beat.

Maybe you should post it up on friday or saturday (instead of sunday). I bet some people would be wanting to get started this weekend on SMW together. Whatever you think is best though. :p

Oh heeeellll yes. I've never played Secret of Mana or Super Mario RPG tho, can those be afterwards?

Edit: Oh saw the thinking re: RPGs upstream there. Nice. Wish there was an upload screenshot option in these things. :/

Also:

Is it cheating to play on a real SNES with a CRT?

Well, if it's a crime to love one's country, then I'm guilty.
And if it's a crime to steal a trillion dollars from our government and hand it over to communist Cuba, then I'm guilty of that too.
And if it's a crime to play on a real SNES with a CRT, then so help me, I'll soon be guilty of that!

Does anyone know what sort of wireless the Hori pad uses? Be great if it wasn't just restricted to Mini/Wii U usage. Praying it's Bluetooth.

Damn, I really hope I get mine on release day then, I'm getting hyped to play with everyone. Have plans for midnight at walmart, a little after midnight at a larger further away walmart if that falls through, then ultimately getting in line 3 hours early at target.

That is my game plan as well. :)

Mine is apparently at the local post office. Supposed to be delivered tomorrow!

Already got my wireless 8bitdo SNES controller and adapter that I've been using with the NES Classic.

Tomorrow I'll be playing with power. Super power!

So I just found out this thing only does 720p, does emulation make the picture better at 1080p or 4k? I know for 3d games it does, but not sure on 2d which is what I'll be playing mainly.

First draft of what a passport image looks like (I will implement themes for Euro SNES) -- all of this was done and uploaded by a robot!
GiNEgwu.png

The images are placed sort of randomly with random rotation so that it looks like a real passport stamp! :)

Hmm, I was still on the fence about getting one of these (if it’s possible to even find them) but damn if this game club idea isn’t swaying me to get one asap. Would give me a good excuse to play certain games on it I might not otherwise.
