A while back someone mentioned how he's surprised that no one has made a porn with the Wii mote in it.

Well I just ran across one.

It doesn't exist if you don't provide a link.

I don't think it shows anything, really. I was to busy laughing my ass off to notice. I'll pm it to anyone that wants, though.

Hah, it doesn't really show anything. Still not work safe, though. :lol

Anyway, continue on with predictions.

I know what video you're talking about. The one where the guy uses the girl as a wiimote to play tennis? It's mostly SFW, and it's just a joke video. :lol

You can search Kotaku if you want to watch the video. It has probably been posted on GAF already anyway.

Yeah, that's it! He's trying to decide if he wants to have sex or play Wii Tennis, so he just swings her around like a Wii-mote. :lol

Here's one I did. I didn't include 360 sales prior to November because I thought the graph was more useful this way (and I couldn't find a reliable figure).
200603NPDCumulativeSales.jpg

Here's the NPD sales numbers I used:
Code:
	        360 Wii PS3
Nov 2006	511,000 476,000	197,000
Dec 2006	1,100,000 604,200	490,700
Jan 2007	294,000 436,000	244,000
Feb 2007	228,000 335,000	127,000
Mar 2007	199,000 259,000	130,000

That is a very interesting graph. The conventional wisdom is that the Wii is completely dominating . . . but when you look at that graph, you can see that the xbox 360 has outsold the Wii since its launch. I forgot that. Of course, the Wii will probably pass the 360 soon but people that think the Wii is completely destroying the 360 are dead wrong.

It's been supply constrained, and the 360 isn't...one of the benefits to launching a year earlier. Compare the Wii's first 5 months with the 360's, and you'll see it "dominating":

chart-1.jpg

Also remember that the Wii is performing similarly in 2 other territories, something the 360 didn't do and still isn't doing.

That's one way to spin the numbers.

You seem to forget that the xbox 360 was also supplied constrained until the April/May after its launch. Ooops.

Yes, worldwide the Wii is dominating, but it isn't crushing the 360 in NA like many seem to think.

But the Wii is(still) also supply constrained with even bigger monthly shipments than the 360 ever saw.

Mar 2007	199,000 259,000	130,000

That December month really gave the 360 a huge buffer zone. Chances are Nintendo catches the 360 from the Wii's launch to current dates within the next two months (maybe one depending on how many Wii's Nintendo got out). Then Nintendo can cut into that head start the 360 got for a year, I don't know what that number is, but it will be interesting if Nintendo can catch them in the US on an overall scale, with Microsoft having a year advantage. Month to month sales are going to be interesting in the future. I'm waiting for one of the companies to drop the price of their console, which will have a trickle down affect and then things can really heat up. Nintendo has destroyed all expectations though, that much is obvious.

I was surprised at the solid trends. Even though March was a long month, the trends stayed pretty much the same. The Wii has slowly been eating away at the 360's lead which was a result of big Christmas sales. It does look like it will catch up in a couple of months.

it will catchup to what? November-May sales? :)

Graph is great, but it doesnt show the fact that it will take a LONG time for Wii to actually catch up to 360 sales. At this rate, it will take 4 years..

Yeah, because market leading consoles don't up their production significantly.

Yeah, that's all I mean. I wasn't trying to make any particular point. Someone asked for a graph and I thought I'd make one before it becomes too difficult to dig up old numbers. :)

I would have put the 360's sales up to November in but I couldn't find a life-to-date figure for the 360 that was reliable. NPD put out some LTD figures in December or something but they looked completely whack. So I graphed it like this and realised that with the lines closer together it makes it a bit easier to read how each console is trending against the others. Otherwise the 360 would up a mile at 6 million or whatever and the Wii and PS3 would have tiny lines at the bottom of the graph.

360 sales data:
Nov-05 325,902
Dec-05 281,441
Jan-06 250,000
Feb-06 161,000
Mar-06 192,000
Apr-06 295,000
May-06 221,000
Jun-06 277,000
Jul-06 207,000
Aug-06 205,000
Sep-06 259,000
Oct-06 218,000
Nov-06 511,300

Total: 3.404 million

PS3 sales data:
Nov-06 196,580

Wii sales data:
Nov-06 476,140

And again, I already have month-to-month graphs for both next-gen handhelds and consoles for the U.S. and Japan. I just prefer doing weekly average breakdowns instead of cumulative, as you can see the impact of individual games better.

I was doing the graph at work today so couldn't spend much time looking up past 360 figures - now I'm glad I didn't because you've done all the hard work. Nice one!

Well it's not like the Fall Lineup for 360 isn't going to be huge, and the price isn't going down soon...

We seem to forget the price differences. 360 will gain tons of momentum this fall, it's rather impressive that it held its own with Just a new IP to rely on in the middle of two big Console launches.

Don't underestimate the 360 in N.A, and Europe is warming up alot to it too. Sure Japan is not a good market for the 360, but it's trying hard, and that's very important for the Dev support.

360 took a 30% dive in March. The HD market is being disrupted by alternatives (and because of high prices). I expect the decline to stabilise because of Elite (I'd expect it to go up by a nice little bit if the Elite wasn't supply constrained, however) for April though, but I expect the average weekly in May to be down a little (not much because people who wanted Elite will still be getting it), and then start to continue to decline in June.

PS3 has been getting the worst of it though (because of high price).

Um, no, that was the whole point of my post--comparing sales when they were both supply constrained instead of when just one is. When we'll see sales of both when they're not may be a while off.

Wii: 280k
360: 240k
PS2: 210k
PSP: 180k

Yeah, I know what you mean. We love the graphs at GAF but we're not very good at reading them. Or is it that we are very good at reading them to say exactly what we would like? :lol

I'm going to do another graph now with donny's numbers and see how it looks.

For comparisions :

Japan according to MC (2nd - 29th April)

1/ NDS 672.646
2/ Wii 308.777
3/ PSP 119.672
4/ PS2 51.088
5/ PS3 50.249 :lol
6/ Xbox360 11.332 :lolz

can you overlay it so that we can also see how each is doing relative to the other from their launch dates?

Ah . . . I see. But then again, comparing sales of two supply constrained consoles is kinda pointless.

I just did that and let me tell you: it yields a Graph of Controversy (TM). But OK, I'll post it.

NPD April runs from April 8 to May 5 so the most equivalent Japanese sales period (using the weekly charts we get) would be April 9 to May 6:

NDS - 847,166
WII - 357,514
PSP - 123,341
PS2 - 51,669
PS3 - 48,713
360 - 11,574
GBA - 4,439

This is all in the original post.
